Does anyone have a cockapoo or shipoo? Can you tell me about the breed. Do they shed? Are they good family dogs? How big do they get? Thanks for any info.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We adopted a 12 week old white cockapoo. She is adorable and so smart. We have had her for 2 nights and 3 days and she is already spoiled. After the first night she would not sleep alone, she cried and barked, so we put her in a box in our son's room and she did great, 2 nights she slept in the box without any accidents and she stayed there all night (of course the box had to be on the bed! So far only one accident in the house!!!!

We took her to the beach yesterday and she loved it, she was so good she stayed with us and did not run off and she was not afraid of the water. She is so playfully and cuddly and sweet. I think that we made the right decision. My only concern is, I don't think that she will like being left alone when we have to go out. Thanks for all your input,

Neither of them gets too big.......if you go to...... http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm they will show you each breed......not the combination, but the combination will take on one of the two more than the other one.........so I would read about them both and see which one appeals to you the most.....good luck.....

Cockaspoos can tend to be a bit bigger (toward 25-30lbs) and Shipoos are smaller (usually under 15lbs). A cockapoo will more than likely need to be professionally groomed on a regular basis but they are wonderful pets. Shipoos will probably also need regular grooming. Shih Tzus tend to be prone to eye and upper respiratory issues because their eyes are more bulbous and their muzzle is short so if you go for the Shipoo, maybe try to get one that has less protrusive eyes and a longer muzzle. Neither breed should shed much if at all.

When picking your pup, be sure to check that there is not an umbilical hernia. (That will be costly to repair later on.) Also check under the tail for evidence of worms and check the bite to make sure it isn't over or undershot (unless you want the dog to appear more Shih tzu-like in which case an underbite is normal). If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to try to help. I've been a vet tech for 10yrs. Best of luck with your new pup! :)

We have a cockapoo, she is a year and a half old & weighs 15 lbs. We love our little puppy, she does not shed & both my husband & son (who both have dog allergies) are not allergic to her. However, she of course brings in pollen from the outside that can cause my husband to sneeze. Our dog is a great family dog, playful but also snuggly.

My recommendation is to find a local breeder & check them out, especially if there are allergies in your family. My husband can tell after about 5 minutes with a dog if he is allergic.

As for grooming, our cockapoo needs to be groomed about once every 6 weeks or she gets too matted, I don't know the prices in your area but here it's around $50 which can add up quickly.

OMG--just picked up Joy Behar's children's story, SheetzuCacaPoopoo, about her mixed breed dog. Story is that the dog is very affectionate, but got into trouble when no one was home--sent off to doggy daycare. It sounds like any mix of those breeds are very smart and lovable!

I have a female shih-poo, she is about 6 months old. I Love her sooo much. Went looking for a cockapoo but fell in love with Bella. I have had 2 shitzu's b-4 and they were great also. I have had a male and female both were great dogs. I have noticed with my new pup that she is struggling with potty training although she does seem to get the puppy pad thing. I have another dog who is much larger and she keeps him in line. She loves getting rough and fussing with my son who is 8. She does not shed alot but she will def need groomed, right now she can hardly see due to her hair being in her eyes. All n all I think they are loving, playful dogs who really love to cuddle and also be protective when needed. I look back at my son's baby pics and almost all of them have My Molly in them, she watched over him soo much. I am sorry to say so much but they r def worth looking at and loving forever.

A good friend of mine has a shipoo and LOVES her soo much. She says she is a great dog, tho they did have a challenge with her potty training. Not sure if it was just the dog, or the breed (prob the dog).

Good luck!
