Hi Everyone! We recently moved to the Palatine area and are remodeling our home. We're to the closets, which we ripped apart and rebuilt to prepare for new closet doors. Now we're considering what types of closet systems to go with and are willing to spend a little more on our master bedroom walk-through (to the master bath), but still not a fortune. We like California Closets and similar companies' work because they can custom-fit the product to our oddly shaped space, but find it a little expensive. Does anyone have experiences they'd be willing to share with those types of companies or similar, cheaper alternatives that can still custom-fit the product for us? Thanks!
We used Closet Works and they were a lot cheaper than California Closets and a few of the other ones. They all use the same materials so we didn't see a difference in quality.
I've just had 3 types of doors MADE for my utility area and 2 closets. I wanted louvre doors for utility area. Wood with slats on the top and solid wood on the bottom. I ordered them from Menards and when they came in I had my construction man paint them white, hang them, and attatch brass handles, not knobs. They're beautiful and give the house a fresh look. Now I ordered one for my closet and the 3 bedroom doors. I can't wait till they come in. If you need me for info about him, just write on the message board.
I agree that the Container Store's ELFA system is great. I had two of our closets designed and priced. The price was more than my budget could handle. My husband is very handy and was able to find similar materials at the hardware stores and was able to use those materials with the Container Store's plans. It worked well for us.
Elfa system at Container Store is great!! They can custom fit your closets easily. We did all of our closets with the elfa system and love them!!
Ikea has many closet systems in different shapes and sizes- the prices are really reasonable.
My husband and I love, love, love the ELFA system from the container store. The have many style options, though the basic white system is the cheapest. Depending on what your needs are, it doesn't have to be that expensive. It's not necessarily the cheapest, however, they are extremely simple to install ( I have done 3 walk in closets on my own) and you can take them with you when you move. We initially had one for a smaller closet, we went back to the store after we moved into a bigger home and they were able to build off of what we already had since they save your purchase information! I have never had a bad experience with the system and I have never had anything stronger! Good Luck!

My husband is a woodworker who specializes in custom furniture and retail displays, but basically will build anything. If you're looking for something that can be made the way you want it as far as fit, color, style, etc. this would be a great way. You can customize shelves, hangars, drawers however you would like. Custom work like this is not expensive. He charges a reasonable rate (many people think "custom" and think it will be very expensive).
