My oldest is going to camp and we need to take a bug spray or something to keep bugs off him. Does anyone know i those citronella bracelets work? If not, what would you recommend? Thank you!

The citronella bracelets worked really well for me, and they last for 100 hours. They however didn't work well for my daughter who is a mosquito magnet. I read that mosquitos are attracted to dark colors so send lighter colored clothing for your child. We have tried dryer sheets, and listering and they didn't even slow the mosquitos down. Also don't send the sunscreen/insect repellant combination. The mosquitos will bit where it wasn't applied (under a bathing suit) and you have a tendancy to not reapply it at night when the mosquitos are hungry.

A family friend mentioned the other day that she got bug buttons for her child. They are citronella like the wrist bands, but you just pin them on your shirt. She said they worked well. I have nver tried them, but I probably will! I have used dryer sheets and it worked for me, but I'm not quite as much of a mosquito magnet as my kids are. If my kids were camping I would probably take more than one thing to try. That way if one doesn't work in that area you can always try something else.
Good luck!

I heard dryer sheets works.
Put it in your pocket.

Or, there are DEET free bug sprays.
Go to Whole Foods. Or any natural food stores.
Or, Avon's "Skin So Soft" repels bugs.
If your son does not mind that.

Here's what the CDC says about DEET:

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile/qa/insect_repell...

"Of the active ingredients registered with the EPA, CDC believes that two have demonstrated a higher degree of efficacy in the peer-reviewed, scientific literature. Products containing these active ingredients typically provide longer-lasting protection than others:

• DEET (N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide)
• Picaridin (KBR 3023)

Oil of lemon eucalyptus [active ingredient: p-menthane 3,8-diol (PMD)], a plant- based repellent, is also registered with EPA. In two recent scientific publications, when oil of lemon eucalyptus was tested against mosquitoes found in the US it provided protection similar to repellents with low concentrations of DEET. "

Dryer sheets, other oils, citronella, avon products, etc, etc have ALL been scientifically tested and do NOT work. Mosquito bites do carry diseases like West Nile Virus and encephalitis. Please use something that works on your children. DEET has been used safely since the 1940s.

We are always in places where there are mosquitos. I have tried everything.

I recently tried the OFF! Clip Ons. I am sad to report they did not work well.

The only thing I have found that works well is the Family Care OFF!. My pediatrician suggest that I use this for my children.

I, myself, have had West Nile and never want to get it again. I did not get it from the deep woods. I got it from running at Memorial Park.

I've just bought a bunch of Skin So Soft after another friend decided to start selling Avon for this very reason. Now that we have children, we want to use products that are safest for them. And so far (knock on wood) so good! Plus it smells good and makes our skin all silky!
You can order it online even, here's my friend's info:
