Hi Mamas,

My family and I relocating to Orlando. We are stongly considering Oviedo, but noticed that Chuluota is right next to it and shares the same schools as Oviedo. The homes in Chuluota are much cheaper than the homes in Oviedo. I heard that Chuluota has a water problem (very high water bills), thus making the homes much cheaper. Does anyone live in Chuluota who can comment about this? Or, does anyone who doesn't live in Chuluota know about this? I was told to stay away from Chuluota, and I am wondering why. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I used to live in Oviedo and we never had a problem with high water bills.
I had never heard of this problem until reading your post so I went and googled "chuluota fl average water price" and the first four items that came up were about enraged residents in chuluota about water prices and costs.
I would google it on your own are read up on it. Some of the posts I noticed were from Feb. so this problem may have been resolved. Do your research.
Good luck!

I would not recommend Chuluota. If you check out the sexual predator website from the local police or I think, Amber Alert might have a website with a link for searching any areas you'll see that Chuluota has a high number of sexual predators. Again, they are everywhere just be aware and inform yourself. I also recommend Partin Elementary School. Great school with great teachers. Parent involvement is high. I would check out resale houses in Live Oak community.
Best of luck.

Hi E.,

I think it depends in part in what you are looking for in a neighborhood. I don't know anything about the water issues - I live in Winter Springs, very close to Oviedo - but Chuluota has long had a reputation as a "hick" part of town. I think that is slowly changing as Oviedo has begun to spread out that way.......but it does have a bit of a "middle of nowhere" feel. I'm sure you do get more house for your money, you may also get more land and there are a few nice lakes that it might be more affordable to live on........but there's not much of a sense of community.

Good luck!

I live in Chuluota...there are new homes here (less than 5 years old), and older homes (I am guessing but 20+ years old?). There is "old Chuluota" and "new Chuluota"..the houses differ greatly. We do have a water issue here with our water company, and we continue the battle with them monthly it seems. I hate to drive anyone away from here because of it, but it is a reality. I don't think that's why the houses are less expensive, but it may be a contributing factor. I think, however, it is more that Oviedo is more centrally located to lots of things and Chuluota is still more country and you have to drive TO Oviedo for anything, thus making the homes in Oviedo worth more, if that makes sense?

I love my house (it's 3 years old) and my neighborhood, and our public schools are A schools. I know some of old Chuluota is zoned to our public school, however, I do not think all of it is...I'm not sure, as my kids attend a private Christian school. However, I do know they are good schools. Anyway, we are working on the water issue, thought a slow process, and if you have a well the problem is FAR LESS, but nonetheless, still existent. Most of us got wells though finally to help the issue since it's taking so long to reach a permanent solution. Hope this helps!

The neighborhoods off of Snow Hill Road do have water problems (quality/price. Oviedo does not. Check the school zoning map. We live in Oviedo off of 419 and the schools are excellent. It's a nice area to live. The City of Oviedo also has nice amenities.

We just sold our home in Chuluota and are moving go Oviedo. I did not trust our water at all. If fact, I read something about a substance that is in the water that could cause cancer. We always bought bottled water.
There are two parts of Chuluota in my opinion. The older section with homes built in the 1950s, and the newer homes around Snowhill Road. If you are looking at the newer homes, I think they are the ones with the high water bills. We lived in the older section (but with a home built in 1990) and our water bills averaged around $30 (no sprinklers). I've heard of the Osprey Lakes area costing as much as $400 a month!
But I wouldn't trust it to drink at all. The school there (Joan Walker) is even going to provide bottled water this year to the kids because they don't want to take any chances.
