Check Fees

I went to order checks for my account and was shocked to find they raised the price to $20 a box. It's $12 for the checks & $8 shipping. There is no discount to order multiple boxes. Someone suggested ordering checks from those flyers you get in the Sunday paper for $5.99. How much do you pay for checks and is it safe to order them from this type of company? Also, I read through the flyer and this price is for new customers only. I was wondering if once you order the next time they will be just as expensive. We need to have checks and cannot switch to a debit card only. Thanks....

What can I do next?

I always get my checks from Checks Unlimited. I used to call and order them, now I get them online. They are just as safe as any check your bank offers. I usually get 2 boxes for under $10.

I order my checks through those flyers too. I like that they are cheaper and cuter than the bank checks. But more often, I do my banking on line and have the checks send right from the bank. At our bank, Chase, all the on line banking and bill pay is free and most of it is electronic.

The only time I write a check anymore is to my Aunt when she does my hair or if I have to send a check to school with my daughter. Anyone else either gets paid electronically or through a check through the mail, sent from my bank.

I have ordered checks through those flyers in the past and never had a problem. I too got ripped off at the bank and when I run out will order through the flyers again. Yes they say it's for new customers only, but I always ordered from the same place and always got that low price.

walmart.com has checks, have had no problems. i think they are slightly more ($1 or $2 per box) more than the flyers (although i haven't looked in years) and i hate to say it, but i kind of trust wm more than those flyers so i went with them. they have all the same designs.

I order from "Checks In The Mail" and have never had a problem. I like cute, duplicate checks. I don't recall the prices because I use so few these days.

Mine were 13 with shipping. The problem with some of those companies that print for next to nothing is they don't always use magnetic ink so you sometimes get your checks declined at merchants that scan the checks at the register. If you are going to go that route you may as well just print your own checks. You can buy blank stock at a mess of different places. Again you have the issues with the checks being declined but it saves you more than those fliers do.

I never order my checks through the bank because they are so expensive. And I want the pretty ones. :) I've ordered from a few of the flyer places. Checks Unlimited, Styles Checks, and a couple of other places that I can't remember off the top of my head. I usually get two boxes at a time and they end up a lot cheaper that the $26 for one box from my bank. I don't write checks that often and I've gone through about 3 boxes in 6 years, when I switched to my current bank. When it comes time to order again, I just order from another company and get their first time special deal.

the flyers are great...i've never had any issues or problems. and i like the selection better than the bank! to help, I've also reduced the amount of checks i write to about 2-3 per month just by baying bills with an e-check. it really helped cut down the amount of checks i write :)

I've never paid for personal checks and I get them a box at a time through my bank. It is one of the perks on our account and we've had our account over 20 yrs. Ask your banker. Sometimes if you just ask, they will waive a fee. We have no fee accounts and have for years.

The only checks I pay for are ones I order that are specialty from Quickbooks for my business.

I've seen checks from the flyers but I prefer to go through my bank. I don't want or neeed anything fancy, I just get the standard check with all the important info.

The only fees I've ever paid are for wiring money and ACH accounts for direct deposits which are standard fees.

Good luck and just go ask the banker.

Well, I'll preface this with "nothing is completely safe anymore and I can't make you any guarantees" BUT we have used one of those flyer companies for many years and have never had a problem. And once you are a customer, they send you other special offers so it does not end up being anywhere near as expensive as the banks. In fact, I seem to remember our bank person quietly recommending that we did not have to order from them, and it would be cheaper elsewhere.

I haven't ordered checks from the bank in over 20 years. The selection and prices are better other places. You can use the Sunday flyers or find a site on-line. I normally order the maximum amount allowed with the discount so it's years until I need more.

I have in the passed and had no issues, actually I liked their checks better then the one I got at the bank. The last ones I got were from vistaprint.com and I get the free ones for one of my accounts cause I only use about 3 or 4 checks a year out of that account. I didn't have any issues with the bank not accepting them or them taking to much out of my account - everything went smoothly & I'm still using them.

NEVER order your checks from the bank. The prices are outrageous.

Yes, its perfectly safe to order checks from the flyers you get in the mail. That's what I've been doing for the last 20 years. The checks I currently have are from the Check Gallery.

Yes, the next time you go to order they will be more expensive, but still less than your bank. Take advantage of the multiple discounts, if you write alot of checks.

yes, the checks are lower for first time customers, but there are at least 4 companies out there, so I have played the game with them all. Order several boxes the first time if you know your address/account won't change. Google "checks" & you will see many to choose from. I like the designs they offer too. Good Luck,

I've ordered from Walmart Photo checks in the past with no issues. I used one of my favorite pictures from my wedding for a few years... They were cute, customized, and cheaper than what I could order from the bank.

Yeah, that sounds about right. We had to order checks too and the shipping was surprisingly just as much as one box of checks. We did look into the checks you can order through the mail and the price was nearly identical to our bank. We don't write checks for anything other than church and maybe other charitable stuff or service being done at our house. I know we can give our bank info for auto-debit but I am just not 100% on board with so many entitites having access.
