Hi Ladies,
Any recommendations on a camera that is simple to use but the quality of picture is good? I have no idea what to look for or get in a camera but we want to purchase one that isnt too expensive but will do the job. I have a friend who has no photography background & takes the best pictures & she says its all about the camera you use. I would love to just go and take pictures of my kids playing or outside. Capture moments. I know this is a pretty open question so I just let me know what type of camera you use & if you love it? Im not a photographer so I have no idea what I should get for a mom who just want to take pictures of the family. Thanks in advance

We have had really good luck with the Panasonic Lumix cameras. We have three of them. Easy to use. Great pics. There are several in varying price ranges. About $150 is the DMC-FH25K. There may be a model cheaper, and several for a whole lot more.
I have done photography seriously since I was in 7th grade. Had a dark room in my parent's laundry room type serious. I have some great Canon cameras, even my favorite Pentax, but my husband, after researching the heck out of cameras, bought the Nikon Coolpix AW100. I LOVE IT. The pics are AMAZING. I even take video and pics underwater with it. It ran about $300 and was worth every single penny...and then some. It sucks battery like an alcoholic at a bar, so get another battery. Don't waste your time researching - my husband is so anal retentive (um, I mean, er...particular) that he did it all for you. I've stolen this camera from him and told him to get another one. LOL
I have a Nikon Coolpix. They run in the $100-150 range and they take really good pictures. The model I have has an active child setting, which comes in handy. You can get better cameras for more money, but this is a good economical option.
I own a Nikon Coolpix, have had it for a couple years. I always get compliments on my pictures. It's easy to use, but it also has a good amount of pixels, which, in my opinion, really makes a difference in the quality of the picture. You can get some less then $200 now.
I get great pictures with my little Kodak Easyshare. My husband got me a bigger, better camera, but I never use it. My Easyshare is small, so it is always in my purse. And it is simple, so I know how to use all the settings. It is not so expensive that I will worry about it being stolen at the beach. When I am hiking it is not slung around my neck weighing me down. The new camera takes great pictres (but not really better than my Kodak), but it is too expensive and cumbersome to really have with me at all the places we have the best "moments". I've had it (the new camera) a year and I still haven't figured out all the settings, and by the time I do figure out the right setting, the moment is over!
canon powershot - can't go wrong. we had an olympus point-and-shoot prior, but the shutter speed was slow. the canon generates great quality pictures.
I second the Canon Power Shot. They are compact, take great pictures and easy to tote around. They have multiple settings for action, darkness, etc. and fit easily in a pocket or purse. This is the one I use because I'm not ready for a "real" camera yet. I have taken literally thousands of pictures with mine and I get compliments a lot. I recently bought the waterproof model and I like it a lot although I think the regular version might just take a very slightly better picture.
I love my Panasonic DMC-251 with 12x zoom. There are many functions I haven't a clue about, but there are "auto" functions to keep it simple and it takes a great photo, can squeeze into my pocket and was reasonably priced. It is a couple of years old so they may have an even better version by now.
check out costco...... see what they carry, then do a little online research.
