Will all this Halloween candy stay good until xmas if I stash it in a bowl in a cupboard?? It is almost all chocolate bars (milky way, 3 muskateers etc)... I don't want my kids eating any more and we have a TON left.... so I was thinking stockings???

What can I do next?

Send it to me, I'll eat it right now (as I stuff the rest of a mini Twix in my mouth)

No joke!! I love candy, but this is ridiculous how much we have right now. I am sure the candy you have will keep for the next two months. Maybe freeze it until then?? But I am guessing with all the preservatives and such it should be just as good by Christmas time if stored in a cupboard.
I have a 2.5 and 4 year old. My brother and SIL stopped by on Halloween to see them and bring treats. They are both skinny health nuts. My husband and I, on the other hand, could stand to lose a few pounds and my kids certainly don't need to start bad junk food habits either. Anyway, I know their hearts were in the right place but holy smokes, they showed up with a cake, two 42 oz. bags of m&m's, and two of those great big Hershey chocolate bars. It was nearly 8 pounds of candy! Hello??? What is this the gift of type 2 diabetes?? LOL I am shipping off one of the candy bars and bags of M&Ms to my husband's work and sharing the other bag with my moms' groups!

the candy will keep fine. it will freeze but being a candy maker something that I can tell you might happen is that the chocolate gets a weird texture/ color when frozen. which might or might not happen. But no one likes to open a chocolate bar and fine a funny brown/grey coating on it. If you put it in an airtight container and store it somewhere cool away from heat sources it will be fine.

I don't know if it will last that long or not, choc never lasts long at our house! =) We let the kids take 2 pieces to school and then they usually have 2 when they get home from school (they are 12 and 9), and only if they ASK. After a week or so, the excitement of it wears off and they start to forget about it. In the mean time, hubby has been hitting it so its getting less and less. Then they forget about it and hubby eats the rest. That's what we do...lol. =)

It should be kept in a cool dry place, a kitchen cabinet often gets hot during the cooking times so I would put it in the bedroom in the top of the closet of someplace cool and dark.

I'd put them in the freezer if it were me. It'll get hard but softens once you take them out again. That way, you can preserve it better & you can take out what you want them to have. I have hard candy we've had for like 2 or 3 yrs, lol but it's still good. I think hard candy lasts longer than 'candy bar' type candy. Putting it in the freezer may also deter them from getting into it so easily & may deter bugs from getting into your home looking for that candy in the cabinet too. I think leftover candy makes GREAT stocking stuffers! Hope my suggestion helps, good luck!
