My husband is finally fed up with mapquest and google maps. And since asking for directions seems to be out of the question with him(haha) I want to surprise him with an early birthday present, a GPS system. Can any moms recommend a great one for the price they paid? We've checked online and been to stores like Target and Best Buy and Staples. Honetly it's overwhelming with ALL the models out there. I undertsand they are not perfect but it'd probaby be better that the mapquesting right now. I know I can count on the mamas on here, this sight is awesome so thank you SO MUCh ahead of time!

I do not know which one is best, but I will tell you that they get their maps from mapquest and google and arent very accurate either. Maybe some of the more expensive gps's might be better. YOu will definately have to download the latest maps to be accurate. And preview your trip on your gps before taking it.
I have a Magellan, about $120 and have used it once for a trip to SC and to find my way around down there. It was useful but it took me AROUND my destination several times instead of using a direct route. Good thing I had printed directions offline to go by or we would have gotten lost.
Good luck.

Hi there!!

We have always had Garmin GPS's. We bought a Nuvi, it is awesome! I like it and so does my husband...it can do so much and it's touch screen. It is really a life saver when it comes to knowing where to go and even getting lost...you can not go wrong! It's about $200, or less now. Way worth it!

Good Luck!

I have the Tom Tom and I really like it. The view on the screen is great. Sometimes I even use it when I don't have a trip mapped, because you can see the name of the road coming up and you can't always see the road signs. You can go online and add points of interest (i.e. your favorite restaurants/stores) so that no matter where you are you can find a Chick fil A near by for example. My one complaint about it, is that if try to search for something by name it may not show up, so lots of times I have to have the address to find it. But then I can save on their by its name. For example I do a search for lowes and I get nothing, well if I get the address I can then save that address as Lowes. It has different voices to choose from so that is nice, it even has some celebrity voices. Also, you can set it to let you know if you are near school, churches and a few other places.I really like this one and it is fairly simple to use. Hope this helps.

I love my Garmin Nuvi...although I would check to see which ones has the best deal on updating the map. I think mine is about $75. They are constantly changing the roads around here, so when you use a gps you need to use common sense also.

We have the Garmin Nuvi as well... love it. It even tells you the closest gas stations, restaurants... Just be safe! You'll be tempted to pay attention to the GPS and not the road! :)
