I always use the ones off the counter. My kids and grand kids are still alive. So are all my friends.

What is wrong with them? They work and don't hurt anyone. I don't understand all this stuff people are always saying about stuff that has been around for years and everyone has always used it. I sometimes think that companies get together and decide to tell everyone that their competitor has bad stuff in them and theirs is better.

We fill a spray bottle with mostly water and top it off with pure vanilla extract (no sugar) or vodka. Shake it up a bit, and then use it as a bug spray. It works really well for me and my family, who are normally mosquito magnets!

Second the poster who said Badger Brand. Do you have a Whole Foods or Natural market? Whole foods has a large selection of chemical free bug sprays.

Do not use anything with DEET.
Just yesterday, I read an article in Prevention magazine (July issue), that said that research shows that it may cause seizures and headaches.
The article further says that- these things repel bugs:
1) eucalyptus oil and that it actually repels mosquitoes better than DEET.
2) Citronella.
3) That insects "detest" the smell of: geranium, soybean and thyme oils. And that you can combine it together to make a potent repellant.

Buzz away contains citronella that works wonder. In my country though, people use 100% citronella oil on whole body, safe for babies also. Idk why they use it here as lamp oil :|

HI there,
I have three suggestions for you. We used these when we went to Costa Rica, after I did a lot of research on Deet-free sprays. All three worked very, very well for us; I actually can't even remember getting a bug bite. (the first time we went to Costa Rica, I literally had at least 75 bites, I was covered head to toe w/ bites)

We use the avon bug & sunscreen combo sprays. They work very well, and are free of deet.
