Bug Bites - Merrill,WI

My daughter bought 2 beds in 2011 from a mattress discount store. Ever since, her daughter, now 3, has bug bites. Sometimes a couple, other times all over. She has cleaned, vacuumed, bug bombed, had pest control in to spray the house. Still she is bitten. No one else in the house is regularly bitten like this. My daughter has a couple bites on her ankles. Indoor cats are washed regularly and have flea meds and collars. No visible fleas anywhere. Ideas? Help! TIA

What can I do next?

what do the corners and edges of the mattresses look like? If they are "spotty" they are bedbugs.

i've NEVER attempted to wash a cat....that must be fun!! :)

Good luck!

It sounds like bedbugs. Even though the mattress might have been new, bedbugs often infest shipping centers and warehouses.

I would contact a trusted pest-control company about coming out to figure out for sure what the problem is and get rid of it.

Did she throw out the mattresses and get rid of the cats? Sounds like fleas to me. Just because a cat has been dipped and wears a collar doesn't mean that they can't travel indoors and then leap off. Has she tried hiring someone to come and spray the yard as well? What about her work? Where and what does she do? She could be getting bit there.

I remember a special 20/20 did years ago about buying discount mattresses. It was a very disturbing episode. I'm sure that there are laws preventing the reuse of mattresses, but I just couldn't ever get that out of my idea.

My thoughts are the cats-they are dragging them in.

They could be bedbugs. You can Google bedbug bites and see if the bite marks look like the bite marks on her daughter, this could help pinpoint the type of bite it is and then you can see what the eradication procedure is. The flea collars work pretty well and they bombed the house and had pest control in for fleas, so I doubt they are fleas.

Sounds like bed bugs. I have no experience with them, but have seen the show Infested and now have a healthy fear for them. Good luck if that is what it is...it sounds like they are really hard to get rid of.
