So yesterday I come home from the grave yard{ visting my daddy on Father day} My Husband was looking at my sons ear. It was so red. So I begain to look at it to. It look like I got a stinger out of it. So we thought he just got stung. So this morning it looks like he got burned and it has some kind of dried up yellow looking stuff on his ear. SO I toke him to the doctor and so said it was a bug bite that has got infection in it. She gave him meds. and some cream to rub on it. Has this happen to anyone elses child?? I have never seen a bug bite get infected before. How long should it be before it starts looking better?????

What can I do next?

My husband regularly gets bitten by what we think is a red ant. It is usually on the lower legs, it looks like a big pustule, finally heals and goes away. There are all kinds of bugs, and all kinds of bites and baby skin is so tender. Try to keep him sprayed when you go outside.

the bug was probably infected that bit him, not that uncommon. It will probably be about 2 weeks before it is healed good. Keep it clean at all times and if he goes out and gets hot, come in and clean it.

Hi J.,

This happened to my son when he was about 8. We think he got stung by a wasp. It started to look better, but then got infected. it took a couple of days to start to look better and really cleared up in about a week. Needless to say, he's terrified of bees and wasps. Hopefully, your son won't associate this with going to the cemetary with you. Good luck! L.

It's called cellulitis. My sons ear swelled up like a red ballon from a single mosquito bite on his outter ear. We went to the childrens emergency room and they gave him a shot of antibiotics and he was better with in a few hours. The next day it was all cleared up. From now on we always come indoors during peak mosquito times or use kids deet. The natural insect repellents don't seem to do the trick.

Any place on the body that the skin is broken can get infected. I am surprised that more bug bites do not get infected seeing that we scratch at them all the time. His ear should look better in a few days. Make sure you clean his ear area well with some mild soapy water then put on the cream. Best to put the cream on at night so he does not mess with it too much. Lots of creams are put on multiple times a day too. Make sure your hands are clean when you apply the cream to decrease any further bacteria reaching the cut.

Bug bites can get infected--your son's ear should start looking better after 48 hours on the antibiotics. If his ear starts to get more swollen or the redness spreads down his neck or face, you need to take him back to the doctor. I hope he feels better soon =)

Hi, my daughter gets mosquito bites that get infected, almost like their venom gives her an allergic reaction on her skin, once again I recommend Melaleuca oil (tee tree oil), this stuff is amazing and gets rid of infection really quickly....with meds it will also go away pretty quickly, I just don't like meds for myself or my kids, but to each his own. You can find Tee tree oil in the pharmacy or I can recommend a really great wellness company that has the top quality tee tree oil on the market..just ask if you're interested

Hi, I agree about what the other mamas said about scratching leading to infection. Just be sure to use the medication the doctor prescribed for as many days as he / she says. Even if it starts looking better sooner - that way it wont come back.

When she was young, my daughter was so sensitive to mosquito bites that many of hers got infected. The area around the bite would turn red, swell, harden, and weep until the bite looked like a small volcano. The doctor said to put Neosporin and hydrogen peroxide on the bite at the beginning, and this took care of it.

Is there a possibility that the stinger had been in there a while? Maybe he'd been stung a few days earlier? I'd say that would probably give it enough time to fester and become infected.

Your doctor hopefully would have known a spider bite-they are triangular in shape with a puss filled middle.

I also doubt it got infected that quickly and that oral antibiotics are way over prescribed. I'd stick with the topical creme first, and if you think its not helping then move on to the antibiotic. However, most likely it will clear up in a couple of days.

Big bites can get infected just like any type of puncture injury, but its usually after a few days and the person scratching at it allowing bacteria to enter the wound.

sounds like a spider bite. sometimes their fangs can get stuck, what is probably what you thought was a stinger. spider venom can casue the bite and fester up. luckily you got him to the doc and they gave you soemthing to treat it so i wouldn't worry bout it too much.

Yea bug bites gets infected by scratching at them, it comes from the dirt that transfers from under your nails to the bite, or dirt transfer from your hands from rubbing at the bite. I have even know people to have bugs get into the ear itself and have to be removed by a Doctor. As long as you are using the meds you should start to see an inprovement in 72 hours and it should be better within a week.

Hey there I doubt its a spider bite, very rarely does things get stuck in there from a spider, It probably was a bug bite of some kind, Kids tend to pick at things like that and can have bacteria under there fingernails, witch can cause them to get infected and will need antiniotics for that, If it had some drainage, you might be careful of staph infection, He is on meds so he should be fine, did they take a culture of the drainage.
