My 9 year old daughter broke her collarbone in May of this year. Since then she never go to her Judo exercise. This week we are planning to go back and do some tournaments. It is a very physical martial art that involve throwing, pulling, leaning on the body and most of all falling. It's been 7 months now since her injury. She can't wait to be back and compete on this sport. Is her bone fully healed? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks you.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Her accident was from falling off the monkey bar at school because some kid pushed her. She was seen by her doctor 2 months ago(October 2010) and the doctor said it's okay to return back in her Judo. That's why she's bugging me to take her on practices. But as a mother I'm still doubting what her doctor says. Her sensei said she'll be fine by now, too! I hope you guys understand. I want to know from the others who had the same experience. Thank you all!

My fiance was 7 when he broke his, and went back to Sho-rin-ryu (I'm not sure if that's the right name... but it's a type of very physical martial art as well)... after 6 months and he didn't have any issues.

Ultimately... you SHOULD be asking her Doctor this... and for the authorization that she CAN participate.

Collar bones can take a long time to heal... and depending on HER bone break... and where and how it was broken.

You really NEED to ask the Doctor, first.

Also to get her right back into Tournaments.... is she even ready for that, skills wise...after her hiatus???? What does her Sensei say?

But again, you NEED to FIRST.... get an okay about it, from her Doctor, and per her collar bone.

My daughter takes Karate.... and her friend had a broken arm... her Doctor said she cannot do competitions right away, for example.

i broke both of my collarbones when i was 15. i think i was given the ok to return to my activities after 4 or 5 months but i do remember being really sore when i started up again. if the doc has given the ok, ask the judo instructor to start her slow and tell your daughter to listen to her body and back off if she feels pain.

From what i understand kids heal pretty fast, but this is really a question for her doctor. My husband broke his collar bone a year ago, now it doesnt sit right and he has pain. Be very careful and take extra precautions with how well you let these kind of things heal.

professional homeopathic advice would be best, but in lieu of that - you can' go wrong with Cal Phos 6X in the morning and Calc Fluor 6X in the evening.
Good Luck
