Boys in the Bathroom!

E., My solution for my MR son was to have him sit on the toilet seat, frontwards or backwards, and pee directly into the water bowl. He can also do that in a public toilet enclosure, if he does not want to seem too girl-like to anyone around!
Frankly, it might be a better, cleaner world if all males followed this procedure! How many grown men have no faults in this instance? Not many, I do not believe.

I have two boys ages 9 and 10 and have never had this problem. It could be that when they were being potty trained that I taught them to sit on the toilet, not stand. They didn't start standing until they were around 7, if I remember correctly. That could be the difference. I hear this happening to many of my friends and it seems that the common denominator is teaching them too early to 'aim'.

But you are right, he should by now know how to aim correctly. Yes, the PERFECT answer is: every time he makes a mess, he cleans the entire toilet, floor, etc., each and every time (even if it's 5 times in one day). No yelling, just saying (quite empathetically) "oh no, this is sad...looks like the bathroom needs another cleaning". And leave it at that and have him clean it.

My sister-in-law once got so frustrated with the issue that she wrapped the boys' toilet shut (I think with plastic wrap) and made them go in the backyard until they had learned their lesson about lifting the toilet seat and aiming. I don't know if I'd go that far or not, but it's something to think about. If you consistently make him clean and sanitize the bathroom every time he misses, he will have more incentive to learn quickly.

My suggestion, make him clean it up himself... Everytime. He will get tired of it and will do it the right way I promise. At that age, you have to start making them accountable for their own actions. I am following my own advise as well, but I promise, it is making it alot easier on me and making my children much more responsible....Hope that helps. Keep us posted.
