My stick vacuum of 10 yrs has stopped running. For weeks and weeks....I've been on the computer trying to fine recommendations on these little vacuums. Here's the drift, I'm in a wheelchair and fine it very difficult to run the central vac, canister or upright. I end up in the cord or the hose. The stick is best answer for cleanups. It's not possible for me to testing all vac's out there.
Ladies I know for sure you won't mine sharing your opinions about this. I'm passionate about getting a quality product that won't break in the 1st month. I'm tired of poor quality products. I can order by phone or online.
Thank you soooo much
Mem

I recently bought an Electrolux Ergorapido Ultra 12v
I use it for hardwood floors, tile and low pile carpeted stairs and a few rugs. It is cordless. I can't vacuum the whole house at one time on one charge, but who has that amount of time anyway? It is a stick vac with a dust buster that removes from the stick. I found it online with recommendations. It works for me.
Good luck

I am a big time Oreck fan because of performance and weight. The other response is right in that you have to deal with the cord, but it may be worth it - some models have very, very long cords...and you can try them 30 days free????

I agree with Molly S. It's sure looking into repair, at least to compare the costs. I bought a Swivel Sweeper, via an infomercial, at least 3 yrs ago. It was a set, that was two for the price of one. I really liked it's performance from day one. I am still using the Sweeper I originally opened, and have a spare. Now, they've improved the Sweeper. It's even better. I would totally buy it, if mine were no longer working. The new design has an Elbow Joint and a touch-less dirt tray. Cool! However, just as with any vacuum or sweeper, you really must clean the bristles well to keep performing well. Having long hair, it's a must. However, I use a silicone soft broom, now, to brush most of my hair off the floors & carpet, which helps tremendously (just sharing a little tip).

I have heard great things about the shark VX3 sweepers. http://www.sharkclean.com/cgi-bin/livew/site.w?location=b...

I just use a eureka 4-in-1 from walmart that was $20 but I only have 1 room with carpet but it works great and its small enought for my 4yo to use it cause its her room that has the carpet and she loves to clean her room with it. I mostly use it on my hardwood floors as its much easier then a broom and it picks up more (dust etc). I got sick of battery powered ones cause they always die and this one plugs in.

Are you sure you want to replace it? In my area, the sewing maching repair shop does vacuum repairs as well. If it was reliable for 10 years, I bet it could be fixed. In this economy repair vs. replace is "in."

The Oreck is very light weight and VERY good. you will have the cord to contend with, but it might be worth it! Perhaps a good neighbor could come and help you out once a week. Good luck and God Bless!

I am a Rainbow vacuum fan (water vacuums REALLY 'suck'! LOL), but I also have an older Swivel Sweeper, and it's just wonderful for picking up visible debris on carpeting AND smooth floors. I'm also an advocate of repairing stuff. If the vac repair shop feels they can't repair it, they can give you suggestions on what brands are most effective 'cuz they see them ALL -- inside AND out!

Let us know what you ultimately decide(d) to do and how it worked for you, OK?

You can get an online subscription to consumerreports.org for (I think) less than $20, and they rate most everything. I just looked up stick vacuums and they rated a few pretty well (but I don't know that it means anything about how long it will last, just how well it works now). The Bissell Versus 76T8 was the highest rated, with the Black & Decker Pivot PSV1800 being next. You could look them up on amazon and see how other people rate them. Good luck.
