I've found the absolute best travel tips come from trip advisor.com. You will need nothing more!

Quincy Market's really cool. Hotel - I would research lots of hotels on travelocity, priceline, etc. Then, also go to the hotel's website directly and see what the AAA rate was, sometimes you get a better deal going directly.

Have fun!

Hi, I lived there with my husband for several years. Fantastic city! Free things to do would include the Freedom Trail (self-guided tour by following a painted red line through the city - detailed maps available), Boston Commons & Gardens (swan boat rides, frisbee playing, etc..), and you can pay for a Duck Tour - never did one, but everyone I know raves about them - great for kids too.
As for cheap food and lodging, it's an expensive city in general. Try McCormick &n Shcmidt's happy hour - very good food for $1! Have fun!!
