Best Tablet

Following up on a question asked previously about which tablet you prefer. I was surprised at the number of people that said they loved their Nook or Kindle Fire. One person even claimed that her Nook was just as good and fast as an iPad. I bought my son a Kindle Fire for Christmas a few years ago and he hates it! It has been sitting around our house now for two years and every once in a while one of us will try to use it. We have found it to be very difficult to use and very slow. My son gave up watching you tube videos on it, because they took so long to load and would stop to load numerous times during a 5 minute video. He would rather use his iPhone 5 than fight the frustrations of the Kindle Fire. It does work fine for reading books, but internet use is terrible. So, those of you that LOVE your Nooks and Kindles, help me out. What are we doing wrong?

What can I do next?

The Kindle Fire and the Nook HD that are currently being sold are the 3rd or 4th generations of those devices. Sounds like yours is the 1st generation. I tend not to buy first generation products. I'd rather not be one of the guinea pigs that finds all the problems for the company so that they can make a 2nd generation that everyone loves. I'd rather wait and enjoy the 2nd generation.

My niece also has the original Kindle Fire. She never uses it either.

The newer models are much better.

I wonder if you got a lemon? I have never had that problem with my Kindle Fire, and I watch videos, surf the net, etc. I really love it. To me it seems fast.

That being said, I don't think it has near the functionality of my ChromeBook or a higher end tablet like an Ipad. But it doesn't cost what an Ipad costs either.

I'm not sure what's going wrong with your KF - that's a good question.

All 3 of my kids got Kindle Fires the year they came out. They still use and love them - they work great. I haven't heard of anyone having your issues before. Maybe it's not set up right? Or maybe you got a bad one, and it wouldn't hurt to contact customer service.

My kids would rather be on my iPad, of mine or my husband's iPhones. This year for Christmas they will get their own iPads.

Added: Sorry, Jim...it's still early. Contradiction? The kids use their Kindle Fire's a lot, but they prefer to use the phones or iPad. The Fire's are great for the car though because they can download a movie and take it with them. Whereas they can only use the iPad if my husband brings his MIFI.

I have a Kindle Fire 8.9, so I don't know if that makes a difference, but the only time I have trouble with speed is if I don't have a strong wifi connection, or the speed of the wifi is slow for whatever reason. For example right now I'm on my PC an my internet is taking forever, I'm guessing it's a heavy traffic day in online land. My Kindle is also taking a longer time to load. The better your internet speed the better your wifi devices will work.

Odd contradiction Mom2KCK?!?!
The speed of Apple products is a huge selling point. All Apple products here. Our son uses one of the first edition Kindles at school for reading.
