We are looking to replace our Focus (due in Aug) and Explorer (ditto) with A plan leases.
We went to Tom Holzer's and the young woman who helped us was very good. What we need to know: Should we go with the new Focus, Fusion or Taurus for me (and my 84 yr old mom to share occasionally) and a Escape or Edge for my husband - he is 6'2 and needs a bigger vehicle because he is a carpenter and totes around his tools. The Explorer is a gas hog so we are looking at the Edge or Escape. My husband's van was squished by our neighbor's tree that fell down in the heavy wind. Thanks for any ideas or opinions!

I have had Explorers, a Zephyr (old version of the MKZ), and a Focus. I loved all of them and most of all, my new Edge. If your husband is hauling tools, the new liftgate feature (one touch lift or you can use the key fob to auto open the liftgate) is awesome! Aside from the sync (bluetooth with my phone) and navigation system - the liftgate is my favorite feature. It is also roomy and comfortable.
As for your car - I like the Fusion a lot, it is in the middle size wise. If you want a little more room - the Taurus is the roomiest - with an incredible trunk. Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide.

I have the new Focus & love it! I do know the Fusion has more of a Taurus size & you can get it with the same engine that's in the Focus therefore you can still get the great gas mileage! Also I have a friend that just got an Edge & loves it I'm not sure how tools will travel? He doesn't need a ladder, I hope! To me the Escape is going to be too small for your husband I'm a foot shorter and I've bumped my head in the '07 model SEVERAL times I suggest he test drive both first! I know the '08s are supposed to be more roomy but I'm not 6'2 either! Nothing will be better for you than a test drive! I know you're pretty sold on your dealership but I've used Scott w Dean Sellars for over 10 years. Good luck!

I've had a Fusion for one month now (lease) and I love it -- my husband has the 500 (now Taurus) and we both love his car also. The only difference is that his car sits high and it is very easy to get in and out of which might be something to consider for your 84 year old Mom. My husband often comments about my car versus his because of those reasons.

I would suggest the Taurus for you because the seat height for your 84 year old mother to get in and out of. The Taurus is built on a volvo frame so it has a high safety rating. I would also suggest the Escape because my husband is 6'1" and he hits his head everytime he gets in and out of the Edge. The escape also has more cargo room for his tools and such. Hope this helps you out. My husband works for a ford affilated company that deals wtih the designing of the new models of vechicles.

Style-wise, I'd say the Fusion for you, hands-down. It's hip and stylish, with good options and nice mileage. If you are going to do a lot of driving the Focus might be better because even though the Fusion has good mileage, the Focus is a little better. Now if you want to fit in some kids, the Taurus probably has the most passenger room, so may fit carseats better. You didn't say if that was an issue.

For your hubby, maybe you should visit the dealer with all the tools he uses on a daily basis and transfer them over into a demo car. Then you can see how well they fit. What about the F150 or F250? You can get them with backseats. We had a great 250. We got the smaller backseat (no kids at the time) but they offer the full size back seat.

Good luck! And way to go buying American!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi R.,
As for the Edge and Escape I've had both in the past year. I like both of them, as for gas economy the Escape got better mileage. I think that the seats in the Edge are more comfortable. Both vehicles are good but you need to determine your needs and make your decision based on price and what you like..
As for the other vehicles it's all about size, also have a new focus, and I had looked at both the Fusion and the Taurus. Check out insurance costs for the cars and decide what kind of ride you want. The Taurus is a smoother ride.

have you considered a Taurus X. We LOVE it, so much room, great to drive, easy to get in/out and move around seats. we had the Freestyle before (it just changed its name). we will probably alway stick with this crossover when we need to renew the lease.
