Babyproofed Hotel Rooms

A lot of people I know have voiced that hotel rooms are not babyproofed and I am considering writing a letter to some major chains suggesting that they offer a few things when people with young children are staying. Besides outlet covers, what else can you think of that would be needed that they could offer at a relatively low cost to them?

I think if a chain advertised that they provide a few extra things for traveling families it would greatly increase their business and provide good publicity/public relations. Just looking for more suggestions before I put something together.

Thanks!

I would say something to keep little hands out of the toilet and away from the a/c controls. We always wish there was a step stool so our daughter could reach the sink. And this might sound crazy, but I almost sent my husband to the store for a bedrail a couple weeks ago during a hotel stay. Our daughter is too big for a crib of any kind, but is a very restless sleeper. Her bed at home is close enough to the ground that she won't hurt herself if she falls out (especially since we put a pillow on the floor next to it).

Hi, T.!

Very interesting mission you have! :) I mean that in an admirable way. ;) My husband has worked in the hotel industry his entire career, and we've stayed in numerous hotels with our kids, and they are very young; so, I know what you mean. lol

One thing you mentioned is the plug covers, which I know Westin gives them out with their Kids Club bags, along with a rubber ducky and night light. :)

I don't know about other hotel chains. I wouldn't mind asking my husband if he knows what some of them are doing to cater to families with small children. I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for the use of these items, if they were available.

Anyway, here are a few suggestions:

- Corner pads/covers

- Surge protector cover

- Door handle covers

I am staying in a hotel for 8 weeks with my 1 yo and 3 yo after a house fire. Cabinet locks would be great! My baby is getting into every cabinet and pulling out trash and everything that we have put away.

Great idea! I reada an article recently about hotels and child safety (or really the lack thereof!).
- Something to check the temp. of the bath water.
- door stoppers for the top of the interior doors so they don't slam (like the bathroom door, they are usually heavy)
- little towels for kids
- children's plasticware for meals at the hotel
- bed rails
- latch the dressers to the wall so they don't tip
- night lights
- drawer latches so kids can't open them

Some of those may be for convenience more than safety but would still be appreciated by a traveling parent. Good luck!
