My daughter is almost 8 mos old. I am still nursing her, but not exclusively and she is eating solids at least 2x per day. I had a period 6 weeks post partum, but nothing since. I have taken multiple preg test. All negative. Is this normal? After all my other births my period resumed well before the baby turned 8 mos. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses!

I contacted my midwife who assured me that this was normal. That even nursing once a day could delay the return of my period. I think I pretty much new this, but it was nice to hear it from a "professional"

I have a 7.5 month old and still haven't gotten my period back yet-same situation as you. Exclusively breastfeeding and she is eating solids 2X a day more or less. My OB/GYN told me I probably wouldn't get it until my little girl is 9 months or even a year! A girlfriend didn't get hers til her baby was 9 months as well. Hope this is helpful!! You are not alone :)

Enjoy it while it lasts! I got a break from 'Aunt Flo' for nearly 19 months after my son was born! He was exclusively breastfed for six months, then continued breastfeeding along with eating solids after that. Once his nursing tapered to only upon waking and at bedtime, 'she' came back.

My son is 9 months post partum and he is probably eating as much or more solids than breastmilk now and I am in the same boat. I have spotted a little but my body hasn't been able to fully have a menstrual cycle.
If the tests come back negative I am sure you just haven't returned to your cycle yet.

You're "aunt" probably didn't visit at 6 weeks - it was probably just residual from the pregnancy. It is very normal for your period to not come back yet. With my 1st, it came back after 9 months (my 2nd is only 4 months, so I don't have it yet). I think my OB said that 80% of women get it back by 6 months. I had a friend who didn't get it back for 16 months. Unless you want to get pregnant, I say enjoy the freedom!

Your six week period was probably still the postpartum locia. With my daughter, aunt flo didn't return for a full year. Some women it takes even longer. Even so, if you haven't been for a physical since pregnancy, you can go do that. Thyroid conditions can affect the period, but chances are, if you are still nursing, it is just normal.

I got my period back immediately after I stopped breastfeeding. May take you some time to get it back if you're still nursing. Once you stop nursing completely, it'll come again.

I stopped nursing at 6 months and it was another 2 before my period resumed.

I didn't have a period until the day I stopped nursing altogether. My daughter was almost 13 months old. That was my 3rd baby. For my first 2 I was like you and it returned sooner. Strange, but I think it must be normal.

My mother nursed my brother and I till we were 4 years old. Both times she didn't get a period for 2 and a half YEARS!

Mine came back with my daughter (who I nursed till 3.5 years) when she was 18 months old. With my son (who is 21 months and still nursing) I got it when he was 13 months old.
