My friend is complaining about hemrhoids. I was trying to help her but, I have never had them. In my mind they are soft areas that have become inflamed and bleed around your rectum. She say's that what she has are two very hard bumps about the size of a small marble and no bleeding at all. Just a little pain for a few day's and now two weeks later nothing has changed. She has a sedintary job and has begun to stand up at her desk. None of this can be good. Do any of you have any thoughts about what may be going on with her. She does not have insurance but, I am thinking maybe she should be seen by a specialist. I told her I would write to you. So, I am hoping to get some information soon. Thank you in advance, K. K.

They sound like they probably are hemmorhoids, which are basically varicose veins. They don't necessarily bleed unless they get small fissures. Unless they are really bothering her, they can be lived with. The main issue is cleanliness. Wet wipes can help. If they are very painful, then that may be the time to consider treatment. There's not much in the way of home remedies that really works. Of course, if she is really unsure that this is what they are, she should see a Dr.

I would tell her to go to a dr. The doctor will refer her to a specialist if there is a need.

It sound like she may have an absess. They are like little boils really or a very large pimple. There is gunk in there that has built up and now there is a very tiny hole that doesn't allow the infection to get out. She needs to go see a doctor.

My advice would be to see a doctor if she can afford it. It could be a number of things and it could be dangerous to wait. I had similar symptoms when I had my fissure. I can tell you the surgery and healing process was no fun whatsoever but I'm glad I sought medical advice. In the end (no pun intended!) it was worth it.

Hi K.,
When I've had hemorrhoids in the past, they were not hard. She should get some hemorrhoid cream and see if that does the trick. Increase fiber in the diet too. If not, she should contact Tri-County Health ###-###-#### to see what they can offer her as an uninsured person. They have a wellness program. When something does not seem quite right and it does not respond the way you think it should, you should always get it checked out.
Good luck.
S.
