We are going to a wedding in Marco Island, FL in March and would like to make a vacation out of it. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions about places to stay, things to do, etc. My son will be a 13 months old then. (Looking forward to the plane ride!) Thanks all!

What can I do next?

Marco Island is about a 2 and a half hour drive from Miami at the southern most tip of FLorida. I believe its known for having great fly fishing. THere are over 50 locally owned and operated restaurants. Activities offered range from paddle boats, jetskiing, power and sail boats, charters, parasailing, biking, watching dolphins play, and shopping. Just a few minutes over the Judge Jolley Bridge, you will find Prime Outlets Mall with stores such as Liz Claiborne,Canon, Coach, Ann Klein,...
I imagine you are staying at the resort where the couple is getting married? If you can get another couple to stay with you so you guys can split it, I suggest staying somewhere like here once the wedding part of the trip is over:

Its much more romantic and "homey" than a hotel. You can stock the fridge, barbeque at night, walk straight out the front door to Tigertail Beach. No messing with elevators.
I'd rent some bikes and explore Marco Island. Get one of those bikes that have that attachment for children to sit in.
Naples is about 20 min away. Key West may be a fun day trip as well.
The owners can recommend restaurants as well as babysitting services should you decide to go out for the evening.

I manage my hubby's travel arrangements weekly with his sales job and also with our free/play time.

I go directly to the source as far as hotels....hilton and marriott families are our top 2 choices. I log on to their website to get the best deals and choices for hotels in the area we are heading.

I would suggest that you book your plane ticket now!!! I book tickets weekly for hubby and they are inching up quickly on price, even for award tickets!

The hotel websites are easy to work with, no outside charges and you can come up with some good values.

Good luck!

I was there with my then fiance AGES ago and it was lovely. I can't remember where we stayed, but it was very relaxing. I'd check with AAA travel - see if you can get the guidebooks, see how the hotels are rated. Compare them w/hotels.com for a good rate. We did wave runners, but we didn't have a baby then. The nice thing about AAA is they have travel coordinators who might be able to help you plan baby related things, and perhaps know which hotels might have short term babysitting services, or how you can find one locally. Good luck and have fun!
