My daughter has been asking for ice cream and I need a good nondairy option that tastes good and like regular real ice cream. Do you have any that you are liking? or one that you would buy again? Thanks in advance!
Oh, if you have any to stay away from please let me know that one too.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much! We are going to the store today, and I'll let her look at the boxes of what we can find and see what she picks. I know I have seen the So Delicious ones and the Tofutti ones too. I really appreciate it. We have been letting her have real ice cream occasionally, but now I am seeing eczema on her back from it, so we have to move to nondairy. Well, we're off to the store. :)

There is one that is called Coconut something. It is expensive but it is the best one out there. The others are okay. You might try the Rice Dream or the Soy Dream. Some are better than others but again the Coconut Dream???? is really the best.

I'll second the vote for SO Delicious coconut milk ice cream. It is very tasty and has a good creamy texture and mouth feel. My children love it, and it does compare favorably to regular dairy-based ice cream. It IS a little pricey, but no more than regular premium ice creams.

If you'll need to avoid dairy long-term and want to save some money, get one of the little Cuisinart ice cream makers, some coconut milk, and make your own. Then you are also equipped to make fruit sorbets, which are a lovely alternative to dairy ice cream. It's easy to find recipes online. Last summer I made a honeydew melon-mint sorbet that my whole family loved, as well as peach, strawberry, and lavender-lemon.

It's not really ice cream, but the Simply Fruit Sorbet in the ice cream section is really good.

Just FYI: typically sherbets have milk in them, but sorbet does not.

We haven't really found a non dairy ice cream that we loved. But we have enjoyed sorbets. They come in a ton of flavors, including chocolate and they are dairy free. My kids love the Mango flavor. We eat them in cones or dress them up with toppings just like regular ice cream.

Rice dream was just ok to us. We have made our own dairy free ice cream using rice milk and fresh vanilla bean with our ice cream maker. The first batch was ok - it's a bit grainy. The second batch, we added chopped oreos and that one was pretty good.

Rice Dream Bars are good.. The vanilla with chocolate coating. less the nuts.. the nuts sometimes taste bitter to me.. but just the vanilla and chocolate are tasty.. Also, while it's not ice cream, Whole Foods does carry those Ice pops that are made with fruit. The coconut ones have a nice creamy texture, so your daughter might enjoy those as well

Hemp ice cream is the best we've found. Tempte brand, the vanilla is great!

I have tried the soy milk ice cream, and the coconut milk ice cream.

The coconut milk ice cream is better, imo.

Coconut ice cream is very creamy and tastes good, as long as you like the taste of coconut (I do, my husband doesn't). I also like almond ice-cream treats, especially the small ice-cream nuggets in dark chocolate. Yum!

We like Rice Dream non-dairy desert and also that made with coconut milk. The coconut one tastes a bit better but it's probably twice as much. I find them in the health food section of Fred Meyer. They have one made with hemp but I haven't tried that one yet. They're not with the regular ice cream.

The Tofuti Cuties are wonderful. And this is coming from someone who loves her regular ice cream sandwiches (me!).

I cannot find any in our immediate area, but when I went to Disney World, one of the chefs served my son Tofutti Vanilla flavored "ice cream." I love real ice cream, and I found it to be great!
