Ok, so we were gonna get her a will tonight but MIL said she already bought one for our 9 year old. Instead then, we got her Mario Kart and are going to get another Mario game and an extra controller. We're wondering about charging the controllers. If you buy the charging station, do you have to have the battery pack in it or can you charge it with regular rechargeables? I'm confused. Also, should we buy the gun? I haven't seen a lot of games that might require it.
I would get a balance board.
Its real fun... you can use it for a lot of games/sports/exercise games.
AND you can use it too!
As an aside, my daughter likes the "Cooking Mama" game. My girl is 8.

I'm not sure about the rechargable question because I just use regular batteries in mine. But I wanted to suggest our favorite games. We love the lego games. Lego Batman, Lego Starwars, Lego Indiana Jones, and Lego Harry Potter. We love these games! And if you are NOT an accomplished gamer--like me--these games are perfect...you never die really, your player just falls apart into lego peices and then rebuilds itself. My 7-year-old plays these games more than any others.
We bought the Energizer Wii remote charger. Battery pack came with it - not sure why you wouldn't want to use it, but yes you have to use it. It was 15.00 at Walmart.
My kids say that the wii remotes like the steering wheel & gun are no better than the regular remotes - in fact they prefer the regular remotes. So save some money and buy another game instead of the gun.
I saw at Walmart today, a charging strip thing that includes the batteries for 2 remotes in the same package for less than $30. You know, one of those things you just lay the remote down on, rather than snap it into or plug it into something?
As far as the gun goes, I haven't bothered with any of the "extra"s like that, except the first Mario game I got for ours was MarioKart and it came with the steering wheel in the box. From what I can tell, alot of the games that show that stuff (the tennis rackets, etc) you don't really need. And unless you do have it, the kids will never know the difference or care. Now, with a gun, there might be an aiming reason to use that attachment, I don't know.
I am thinking that the drawing pad might be something worth trying out. It is new this year.
We've tried afew charging stations but found that they lose their charge quickly. We did much better with rechargabe batteries. You may want to look at Wii Play - it comes w/ an extra remote (for about the same price as a remote) and it is good for learning how to use the remotes. You may want to rent games before you buy, you'll get a better idea what games she'll play and there are games that once they solve, kids just don't play again.
