So What Happened?

I have good news everyone!!! She went to the doctor and they did a ultra sound. It is just scar tissue for some trouble from almost 10 years ago. She also found out it going to be a little boy!!! Thanks to everyone who read my request.

I have never heard of this before, but I found this site on Google: http://www.amnioticbandsyndrome.com/

There is a page on there about treatment options (go to the About ABS at the top menu & click on Treatment Options on the menu that pops down). It lists an option to have in utero surgery. It says the first one was done 10 years ago. Perhaps this will be an option for your friend and her baby will be ok!

There are also many stories on that site that might be helpful to read.

I wish the best for your friend & her baby. Please let us all know how she & her baby are doing!

I am now 27 weeks pregnant and had an amniotic band scare. It actually turned out to be an amniotic "sheet". I went to Maternal Fetal Group where they have 3D ultrasound and have had 20 to 30 ultrasounds. The doctor at Maternal Fetal Group had explained to me what an amniotic band was, and added that I didn't have that. When I read your question, it gave me chills because I feel badly for her - it is a scary thing. As it was explained to me by the doctor, the amniotic band is part of the amniotic sac that should be attached to the walls of the uterus. An amniotic band actually hangs down. The problem with that is that it is in with the baby, therefore could get caught and wrap around any of the baby's parts. It could wrap around an arm or leg, and if it did it would make that part "die" off. I would not tell her this if I were you. I think it is better for her to wait to talk to the doctor. Sometimes it is better not to know. I do not know how they handle that situation, because my amniotic sheet is connected, not hanging down, which does not cause the same problem, but have ultrasounds every 3 weeks. I will say a prayer for her baby. But I really think she should not know this until the doctor is able to tell her. Good luck and I hope everything turns out ok.

J., look it up on the internet. I have never heard of that and didn't know it existed but I looked it up after reading your mamasource question. It sounds like the amniotic sac is coming apart... it strings and some of the strands get wrapped around the baby and if it becomes too tight it can self amputate in the woom and if it wraps around the cord it can cut off blood supply and be deadly. Type it into your browser and read about it. I have never heard of it but please let everyone know what the dr says and how it all comes out. I will say a special prayer for her.

Hey J.,
i have a nephew who is now 17, that when my sister was pregnant with him had the amniotic band syndrome and however, when he was 3 days old he had to have his right leg removed right below the knee and when he was 3 or 4 months old had to have open heart surgery due to the amniotic band. On was around his ankle and when the air hit it it started to turn black b/c it was dead. And the aorter artery of his heart had been pinched by one and caused it to look like a lady with a small waist line and blood could not flow through it. Maybe now they have better testing and stuff b/c they didn't even know that my sister had this, until cole was born. Keep me updated girl. I haven't heard of anyone else having this happen to them.
We will keep you and your friend in our prayers,
god bless,
S.
