Try the chiropractor. I was allergic to everything and took three medications daily until I had to go to the chiropractor for a neck problem. After she got me fully aligned....all my allergies disappeared and I needed NO medication!

It's completely fine to take Clortrimeton (Chlorotab at WalMart). It's over the counter and I took it while pregnant with both my kids. The best thing about it is it's non-drowsy. You can also take 25 mg of Benedryl for nighttime.

Try a nettie pot. It lets you run saline water through you sinuses and back out. Not nearly as unpleasant as it sounds and works great to remove allergens without having any impact on your infant. Also great for colds and sinus infections. Good luck!

Allergies seem to be extra h*** o* my family this year. We try to keep the windows closed and use the a.c. (even though it feels so good outside). That helps a lot. And using an air purifier and humidifier in the bedrooms at night.

Here's an excellent link from kellymom.com that covers prescription, herbs, vitamins and lotsa other stuff:

I've heard that the book below is THE book for reference when pregnant or nursing. I've heard this is the book doctors refer to. I know I've used it a lot and never had to buy the book, I always found excerpts from it online.

Hi E. yes there is something out there that me and my family have found that helps miraculously with allergies. My husband and son use to have them terribly until we found this product. I am a Waiora distributor, it is an anti aging company that is selling all natural products that are literally having miraculous results. The product is called Natural Cellular defense, it is a liquid mineral that detoxes the body of heavy metals, viruses, allergens and all toxins, it detoxes the cells, purifies the blood stream and enhances the immune system tremendously, I too am into herbs and natural products but I have found nothing out there as incredible as this one product. The company is making millions on this product because so many people are getting helped after taking it, I mean once you detox and clean out the toxins and boost your immune system the sky is the limit with the healings that are taking place. My family has been on it for two years even the cats and we have not had to go to the doctor since we began taking it. The best part about it is anybody can take it from the womb to the tomb they say pregnant and nursing mothers and even infants, animals too. It has been life changing for us having it always around. It is also good for topical use. It truly is amazing if you would like to know more about it then you can call me ###-###-#### or email me ____@____.com or the website to the company is www.mywaiora.com/740801 I promise you it is worth every penny of the price because one bottle is used for hundreds of things, we don't live without it now, it is remarkable. I hope this helps, I promise if you try a bottle you will never want to be without it. You can also put it in your nose, ears, and eyes, it really is incredible, please call me I would love to tell you more. I too stay home with my children and homeschool , I also am the Nursery director at my church, so I recommend it to mothers for babies and toddlers, I have a lot of customers because the mothers love it,, I am so blessed to be able to tell others about it and give them hope, there really is a blessing from God out there for those of us who love natural products with no side effects, the only requirement is that you drink water because it has to have water to work and flush your system out, but it is odorless and tasteless. Anyway call me and you wont have to suffer with allergies anymore.
Be blessed
Sheri M
P.S. Drugs have side effects and you are also transferring them to the baby, but this can actually help the babies immune system as well as yours as it is transferred to the baby

My OB put me on Benadryl when I was pregnant because it was safer than my regular allergy med. I nursed while taking it too.

When my kids seem to have allergies, I give them extra Vitamin C (they're 2 & 3 y/o). It may work for you, too.

I didn't need to take anything while I was nursing because my doctor told me I could still get my allergy shots. I don't know if you get shots, but you may want to ask your doctor if your allergies are severe. I get shots twice a week and now that my daughter is not nursing anymore I can take allegra D. Good luck.

The only thing I recall helping me while I was nursing, without drying up my milk, was Saline nasal spray. It doesn't last very long but since it's just saline, it can be used as often as needed. I used Little Noses which was the same thing that I used on my children.

I know my Doc had said Benadryl is fine to take. It may make you drowsy though. You can get the daytime formula and that will knock out the drowsy side effect of the regular formula. Hope you get to feeling better.

Surely Herbalife has some product you can use that will not harm the baby. If not, try Shaklee.

Here's a link to a website put together by the Library of Medicine. It will tell you what drugs are safe to use while breastfeeding, including any studies or whatever that were done. It's great! I nursed my two kids for four years and it came in handy often! I have found that sometimes GP's or family doctors will tell you a medication is safe, which it is, but they don't really know or discuss the effect it might have on your supply. This would be a great help for that.

The National Library of Medicine, part of the National Institutes of Health, recently launched LactMed, a new database of drug transmission to breast milk. You have to search by generic drug name, in at least some cases, i.e., "escitalopram" instead of "lexapro".

To get to LactMed:
1. go to www.nlm.nih.gov
2. Click on the "environmental health and toxicology link" on the left navigation bar
3. You'll be taken to a page with a blue field with a search box (on the right side of the page).
4. Under the search box you'll see a list of links, LactMed is on that list.

Hope this helps you out!

E. P,

Your best advice as to what you can take while nursing will come from your baby's doctor. He is the one that would know what would harm your baby through your breast milk. I hope you get to feeling better; TN is bad on your allergies.

Hello E.. I have been a Medical Assistant for almost 15 years, and have worked in OB/GYN for 2 of those years in Florida. The rule of thumb is pretty much what you can take while you are pregnant you can take while you are nursing. Just about anyhing with Tylenol is safe. To be absolutely sure and safe, though, there are several resources to check. First, there is your baby's pediatrician. Secondly, your OB/GYN. You really should check with a doctor first before you take any type of remedy that you hear about on the computer or from a friend or family member, no matter how trusted the source is. There are also organizations like the LaLeche League, devoted to safe and effective nursing practices for new moms. I hope that this advice is helpful. Best wishes and good luck!
