Has anyone ever used Melatonin for children? I have heard that if you give Melatonin to kids it stops their brain from making it naturally. Is this true? Or is Melatonin safe for children to take?
4 year old and 16 month old. Thank you

I do not recommend Melatonin for anyone... kids or adults. It does cause the slow down of Seratonin in the brain in both kids and adults. Try 5 HTP first. It triggers the seratonin production. Also, look for foods that are high in tryptophan such as bananas and turkey for your little one.

From what I have read, giving Melatonin to anyone young or old inhibits the brains natural ability to create Melatonin. The body sends messages to the brain and the brain creates the proper chemicals needed to function. There are things you can do to help the body naturally create Melatonin, for instance being in the dark or a dim room without stimuli can cause the brain to create Melatonin anytime day or night. I would do more research on how to help the body naturally create Melatonin before trying to give a supplement.

YOu need to ask your Pediatrician. Is there a reason you want to give Melatonin to them? Your children are so young.
