My son had some speech delays. We researched and now follow the Fiengold program. Within two weeks of altering his diet he added 150 words and potty trained in 2 days. www.Fiengold.org .

Best of Luck, hang in there you will find a way to help him gets those words out!

Has the child been evaluated by Infant Learning, such as PIC or Focus, or the school district for services? Are there any other concerns that you have about this child?

There are many therapies available to help children with speech or language issues. The best place that I know of for early language development is the Alaska Speech Language Depot, ###-###-####. They take Medicaid.

Hello,
My son had the same issues. Everyone kept telling me that he'd catch up and kids learn at their own rate but eventually I went with my gut and took him to a Dr. They sent me to a Ped. Speech place and he's been diagnosed with a speech disorder. He is so far behind and we now have weekly appts. to try to help. He has also started to have behavorial problems because he can't communicate with me what he wants. If you feel something might be wrong, don't hesitate. I can't tell you how much I regret waiting so long and not relying on my motherly instincts.

My son had a lot of ear infections over the course of 8 months. They finally put tubes in his ears last year. After his ears healed I took him to get a hearing test (had to make sure there was no damage from all the ear infections). After I was told all was well I took him to Little Red School House (1 location in Lynnwood and 1 in Everett) to get an evaluation. He only said a handful of words. After the initial evaluation I was told they would be happy to work with him. And here we are a year later and it still amazes me how far he has come in that year. There is a speech therapist and an educator (teacher). They each go to his daycare one hour a day one day a week. It has been a god send. I can't say enough positive things about that place. I can understand him and he can understand me. It's a wonderful feeling.

have you had his hearing checked? my friends daughter at about that age was having the same problem. she got her ears checked and found out she had minor hearing loss. they performed a really simple, painless procedure to improve her hearing and within weeks she was saying a ton of new words. i would suggest looking into that first and foremost, if that is the problem you want it taken care of immediatly. the longer you wait, the more damage thats done by him possibly not hearing properly.

We had the same problem. Luckily, we recognized the problem right after his 2nd birthday, and he's been receiving early intervention services since. It has helped DRAMATICALLY, but he still has a lot of issues. I would recommend getting him checked. Good luck!
