Even if they get married that doesn't mean you can just stop BC, I am married and we don't want to have children at this time so BC is still just as important as before the marriage.

You could look into the non-hormone IUD. That way you won't have the hormones screwing around with everything. I had the same problem with certain types of pills and haven't tried the IUD, but I plan to once I have this baby.

I use a copper IUD, no hormones, so no hormone side effects. It's expensive, because they last for up to 10 years. Planned Parenthood will do a sliding scale for them, but otw, out of pocket you'd be looking at $500-$1000.

Sex before marriage? Oh my! I must rate this as inappropriate :) (sorry - had to make a little fun...)
I am on the mini-pill - it's only progesterone - no estrogen. The effectivess IS less than the regular pill, so you really have to take it on time every day - almost down to the minute. The estrogen in your current pill could be messing with your sex drive/hormones.
As far as the discharge, if it's milky and has an odor, go to Planned Parenthood and see if they can test you for bacterial vaginosis. They are just a good please as any - I don't see how there are 'cheaper' forms of BC pills just because of the facility you go to. It all depends on the prescription. If cheaper means less quality, then all generics should be banned?? It's not like they are giving you expired pills to save a buck!
There's also the Nuvaring (mentioned below) and the BC Patch.
PS - Planned Parenthood gets a bad rap from uneducated people - I volunteered there in college as a birth control advisor. NEVER ONCE did I talk to someone about abortion. A lot of people think that's what they are all about, but PP was the place where I got a pap that found abnormal cells, and they were there for further testing. Luckily, it was nothing. Their staff is very educated and supportive with ALL decisions regarding taking control of your body.

If the pill you're using is killing your sex drive, I don't see a way you can 'fix the problem' without stopping that particular pill. There might be another hormone or combination which will work better for you, though if you've already tried two, it's possible that your body doesn't deal well with hormones. You might consider using a non-hormone method such as the diaphragm. It does need to be inserted before intercourse, however it doesn't use chemicals and only needs to be bought every couple years. I've used it all my adult life (for 25 years) and had no problems or unplanned pregnancies. It is a bit 'old-fashioned', namely less common now, so you might need to make sure that your health care person is really familiar with fitting them. Good luck!

I was JUST talking to my hubby abou this today! I hate birth control! I was off of it for 5 years and then got put back on after 2 miscarriages. I'm going to finish this pack and then I'm done. I hate the zero sex drive!
BUT, since you are not married, I would stay on something. I personally hated the mircro pill and so I'd recommend that you try the nuva ring or patch.

There could be a number of things going on. You could be having some reaction to going off the shot and switching to the mini pill. The shot has a higher level of hormones in it than the mini pill. Just like after you have a baby, it takes awhile for all those hormone levels to even out. It can take several months for things to return back to normal. It's possible that's what's causing the discharge as well. It depends on what type of discharge you are having. I think these are really things you should talk to your doctor about. If there is something else going on, they'll be the ones to be able to tell you.

I went to Planned Parenthood when I was in college and I never had any problems with them. The staff was always really really nice and very educated.

I wanted to add...I"m married and I take birth control. :) Also.....gasp....I had my first daughter before I was married. ;)

I haven't used it so can't give you personal experience, but Paragard is a hormone-free IUD. You might also consider barrier methods of birth control. I too lose my sex drive completely on the pill, and I tried 3 different pills without any improvement. I doubt there is much you can do while on it. Good luck.

Maybe look into the Nuvaring. It's a very low dose of hormones. It's a little silicone ring you put in kinda like a tampon. You leave it in for 3 weeks then take it out for a week when you'd have your period then put a new one in.

I have the same problem with the 3 month shot and do not go on the 3 month shoot it is horrible because i have been off of it for like 7 months and have not yet had a period and causes discharge and itching............... Not having a period is nice but it makes me feel so plugged up and i get bad cramps. See ur doctor they may have some good ideas but im not sure what to do for that or when i go to the doc if i find out anything i will let u know if i find out anything.

Possibly another form of birth control or a lower dose.

The "super strong discharge" may be from some other reason.
An infection? yeast?
Have you had it checked . . . separately from the birth control question?
About your sex drive . . . if you'd like some suggestions/recommendations, write to me privately. I may have some helpful ideas.

Have you looked into the Mirena IUD? I'm not sure how the hormone levels compare to your current pill. I got mine 6 weeks after my daughter was born, which was almost 5 years ago (so I'm almost due for a replacement IUD). I never took pills or any other BC before, so I don't know how the Mirena compares to those with myself. But, I LOVE it!! Almost 5 years and no more kids yet! lol It's the only BC we use.

Hi R.,

What about Nuvaring?? Its a vaginal ring that you put in----really reliable and less side effects than the pill. I don't think you get a discharge with this one--maybe you could talk to your dr about it? Or implanon? the matchstick size birth control that goes on your arm---its b/c for 3 years. Good luck!

I would recommend Naprotechnology. I have used it for years with absolutely no side affects. I would also recommend that you abstain until you're married, especially because you have a child.

Personally I'm leary of the services provided at planned parenthood. They have been known to purchase the cheapest and least effective products from birth control pills to spermacide to condoms. Once you eventually become pregnant from their ineffective/deffective products, they offer to provide you with their other services to terminate your pregnancy. Please go to a regular doctor not associated with planned parenthood. I know it will cost also but your life and sexual health are worth it.

Have any heavy discharges checked out and tested medically by a licensed gyn. It could be pill related but it could also be a signal of something significantly wrong which happens to coincide with you being on the pill.

Pills did this to me also. You probably need to look into other forms of birth control to fix this. That is the only suggestion can give. Good luck!

Hi R.! Every birth control is different and will have a different effect on different people. I had the IUD and hated it but a lot of people love it. I had heavier and longer periods which is opposite of what it normally does to people. I think you're just going to have to look around for different b.c methods. I'm having the same problem with the decreasing drive. I have an appointment Monday and I'm going to talk to my doctor about trying something different. I actually learned something from the other answers on here which is to try the Nuva ring!

As far as the discharge, I know someone else said this but it could be an infection. I had bacteria vaginosis for almost a year and just thought it was discharge. It started right after I had the IUD put in, after I had my son, so I thought my body had just changed after having a baby. I finally talked to my doctor about it, at my annual, and he tested it. I was able to get on an antibiotic and got rid of it!

I think your best option is just to talk to your doctor about the issues your having and I hope everything works out!

sometimes you just have to find the right pill, and that one may not work for you. There are also other birth control methods, like an i.u.d, condoms, etc. I know I'm not a big fan of condoms, but my doctor keeps reccommending the i.u.d. errr... I dunno. Ask is there is another pill that doesn't give that problem, it certainly sucks. Oh and I guess it does work though, if you don't have a sex drive you don't have sex, so you can't get pg, right???? :0(
