I was told that to keep the bite plate clean, just to clean every day with the excess from brushing your teeth - so after you brush, just to use the remaining toothpaste from your brush to give it a good scrub.
That kept it ok for a while. I've really given it a good scrub (with a lot of toothpaste) - maybe I have to switch up my toothpaste or something. It's not cutting it.
How do other people clean theirs? I was going to Google but that sometimes takes you off into different directions and thought I'd ask if any of you had other suggestions from your dentists.
I'll call his office by end of day if necessary.

Not quite the same, but my kid's orthdontist told him to clean his retainers with toothpaste daily (as you are doing) and to use a tablet denture cleaner like efferdent once a week.
Our orthodontist recommended using a denture tablet once a week for our sons retainer.
If you have plaque building up on it then try brushing with a paste of baking soda and peroxide.
Depending of the device some recommend soaking it in vinegar and peroxide and then brushing it.
When ever you visit your dentist - take your plate with you - they can give it a good cleaning in the office.
Additional:
You can soak it in mouth wash.
I wear a night guard at night and I use a product called Brite that my Dentist recommended. It works much like a dentures cleaner but not as hard in the appliance.
