I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice I have a son who just turned 8 months, and the last week or so he has been waking up around 2am and wanting to stay up until 4am, I work part time so these nights are killing me. How did I ever do it before???? I have tried to let him cry it out thinking he would go back to sleep but it has not worked so far, I have done the go in and pat his back and try to calm him down and even giving him a bottle but so far it has not worked as soon as I leave the room he sits up and cries again. It seems like after about 2 hours of being up he then will go back to bed. He does currently have a runny nose but why would he sleep from 8pm to then just fine. Any sugguestions would be awesome!

What can I do next?

Hi R.,
The only thing I am wondering is if he is standing or trying to start walking. When my now 13mo old started, she really changed her sleeping patterns and I have been told this is normal by other moms. Good Luck!!
P.S. Now my daughter is walking and she is sleeping well again.

He may be teething, especially since he has a runny nose. Teethiing messes up their sleep schedule. It will last a few weeks maybe more (the sleeping thing) Just try and get through it. I gave my sons benadryl when they had a runny nose and were teething and that really helped. Too much tylonol is rough on their little livers.

sounds like he is starting to get a little cold or has a tooth coming (I have a 9 month and once in a blue moon he does that too and it seems to be an indication of something happening not a new habit)
maybe even a new tooth... just watch him I bet it stops soon :)

oops just read your post again - yes I see he has a runny nose that makes perfect sense to me. its hard to sleep when you are uncomfortable it will just be a few days I am sure and he will get back to routine :) be patient and know it will pass fast!

I really don't have any suggestions..but I was wondering if you were putting him to bed too early maybe or somehow he is getting too much sleep during the day. Or it could be that he just isn't feeling well. I know that if I'm not feeling well, it can wake me up in the middle of the night even if I had already been sleeping just fine for a while. It's been so long since my child was a baby...it's hard to remember these things.
