6 Week Check up Shock-tubal Ligation

I went for my 6 week check up today and discovered my tubal was unsuccessful. Due to scar tissue and other issues my round ligaments were cut and not my tubes. My doc does not recommend trying again due to the fact the surgery would require a larger incision and the amount of scar tissue from a previous surgery.
Has anyone ever had this happen? My doc felt she had at least one but was unsure of the other. We talked at length today. She said she has never had this happen. She commented mine was the most difficult one she has ever done. Or should I say not done??

What can I do next?

B.,
Have you ever heard of ESSURE? I researched all my options and finally went with that one. I went into the office, they gave me a valium, inserted 2 nickel coils into my falopian tubes via endoscopy and I went home and slept. Then you go back in 3 months to do a test to make sure scar tissue has formed around them. They told me this was so much better than tubal ligation AND 100% no fail rate if inserted properly. And the test after 3 months confirms that. Just wanted to give you another option!

B.--Check with your dr and maybe they can still use Essure. I'm not sure if you are familiar with this but it is a nonsurgical way to have your tubes "tied". Because of your situation I'm not sure if it would work but if you are really interested in a permanent birth control it couldn't hurt to ask. I have not had the procedure done myself (yet) but I did get the info from my dr. and I have spoken to a couple of ladies who have had it done----I was told it felt mostly like a regular exam only with some cramping afterwards (for one or two days), but nothing major and they would definetly do it again.

first of all, how does the MD know the tubal was not successful? Second, how does an experienced md cut round ligaments instead of tubes. I would RUN, not walk to another doctor and never see this one again.

That doesn't sound like fun. If we would have known before we had our daughter that we wanted no more children, I would have had a tubal, but alas, we did not. So my husband, for the sake of my health and not wanting anymore children, had a vasectomy. He says it wasn't that difficult. I just bought him three ice packs so he could rotate and he watched Star Wars all day the day of. The day after we were out and about. I know vasectomies are scary for the guy, and who could blame them, but by what my husband says, it wasn't as bad as he thought. Your husband should check into it. Talk to a urologist before he decides yay or nay.

I know that my grandmother and my aunt both had children after their tubals, but I'm not sure what the cause of it was. But I would also be leery of having the surgery again, especially since the doc said it was so difficult the first time. If she already has to go in and make repairs to the ligaments or something, I might consider, but otherwise, I think I would look for another method of birth control. But it's a good thing she realized it wasn't effective!

First of all I am very sorry to hear of your troubles and wish you well. Second,I am in shock that your Dr cut ligaments instead of tubes....how many years has she been a Dr. I wouldn't be able to trust her again with my body....I have been going to a wonderful OBGYN Doctor Gregory Brannon in cary for years and years he is my Daughter's DR as well...She has two beautiful children. He has helped me through some tough times...he is the greatest!!

I had a tubal 25 years ago...My Doctor at that time went through my belly button...cut, burnt the ends and tied them...I haven't had any problems...and a tiny scar that you really have to look for to see.

I am not sure how it is done today...but...I would definitely get another opinion and another doctor! If you choose to see Dr. Brannon...Please Say Hi to him from Grandma K. B. when you see him....I'm sure you will love him as much as my family does!!! Good Luck

Unfortunately, I don't ave any advice, but rather a question - how did your DR determine that the Tubal was not successful? I had a tubal done in June, after my third child was born, and I discovered the hard way that my dr was not all he was cracked up to be. Long story short, among other things that he screwed up was my sons circumcision. I have been nervous ever since that he may have screwed up my tubal. All 3 of my kids are under 4 (no twins), and Hubby and I had decided we were done with 2. I found out I was preggers again right after he left for Iraq, and I most definitely do NOT want to get preggers again when he gets back. So, basically, I need to know how my dr can check it, because this is not something I want to take a chance on.

Are you saying that you had your tubes tied and they really didn't cut your tubes but your round ligament? Your round ligaments are what holds your uterus and all that stuff up and in you. Is that what you are saying? Like there was a mistake made by the doctor?

Also what is a pure romance consultant, what do you do?

That's unfortunate, but at this point, it sounds like your DH should just get a vasectomy if you want permanent birth control. Unless the female is already having a C-section, most docs recommend the vasectomy as the easier, safer, procedure anyway.
