Hi. My daughter starting having bloody noses at age 10 months. She is now 4.5 years old. She constantly gets bloody noses from fit throwing and screaming. She gets her blood pressure so high from screaming and fit throwing that the blood pours out of her nose. At first, it worried me so much, but now it just seems to be a "routine". My advice is to try to calm her down before it gets to the point of bleeding. I would take her to the Dr. to make sure that her sinuses aren't inflamed though.

Possibly her sinus is already irritated by all the lovely pollen & the pressure from crying has caused already irritated tissue to tear.

I would definitely call the pediatrician, maybe the nurses line to save a trip & a co-pay...

but, I would say unless it is gushing, she is probably just fine. If she sticks her finger up there, that may also cause it to be more prone to bleeding. She is 2 1/2, I would be surprised if she didn't.

Couple of things if it's dry that could be the cause try some sea water nose spray. Second she could be putting things up her nose. Hope this helps!

My Dd used to do that from time to time and i have found out it was from her working her self up so much that it made her bleed a little bit not a gush but more like a little line along with the snot , if it gets more extreme with blood becoming more then the snot then i would say that would be for concern and make an appointment with the doc and double check everything is going well

I'm no medical professional, but I have a family with allergies and sinus sensitivities this time of year. When we cry, especially in a drawn out 'fit' there is some sinus congestion on top of any regular sinus issues. There are so many tiny capilaries in the nasal cavity, that it wouldn't take much at all to break a few with the pressure and swelling of crying, and get a little blood mixed with the snot. If it turns into a pure nose bleed, just apply a cold washcloth across the sinuses and pinch the bridge of the nose slightly, just below where the carlidge 'drops off' at the sides of the nose. Hang in there. With some calm tips from you, your daughter will soon learn how to process her frustration (or whatever is causing her fits) in a more productive way. This, too, will pass. ; )

I suspect it's not a big deal. However, tantrums make everyone miserable, including the child. Check out John Rosemond's book Making the Terrible Twos Terrific. You'll be glad you did!

I hope you give us an update about your daughter.

I would worry about allergies. Not only could they be causing the mucous to be mixed with blood, but they can also be triggering the "fits" and "tantrums".

My daughter learned at a young age to use a neti pot with salt water (thanks to a wise pediatrician). Also, salt water sprays.

sounds like she has some allergies and they are causing some congestion and a little blood. Use a qtip and put some neosporin on it and coat the inside of her nostrils. This will help with the bleeding by keeping the little membranes inside her nose moist.
