My 14 yr old daughter started her period 1 yr ago but she has not developed any breasts or let me say the ones she has developed are very small and cone shape. She wears an “A” cup and that is still to big.

Any suggestions as to why she is blossoming late? Will she ever have any???

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I would like to thank everyone for all of your support. We talked about your responses and she is a little more comfortable with herself.
Hearing it from Mom is one thing but actually hearing the same thing from others really reassured her. I would like to send you all flowers. Thanks Again. N.

As the other mom's have said they don't necessarily go together. She may never be larger and that is fine. I developed late and never developed into a full A cup size. It was very h*** o* me. Yes, kids can be VERY cruel. Be supportive and please don't ever let her think there is something wrong with her. -Nita

This will take time, but it will come eventually. I know this isn't much of a comfort, but I had the opposite problem when I was 14. I was so developed that I couldn't buy clothes at regular stores (i.e. the ones my friends shopped at) because they weren't meant for curvy girls like me. I had to shop with my mom instead (a nice bonding time, but not exactly what I wanted to do at 14).

My daughter is 18 and really did not start to develop until she turned 16. Her menstrual cycle began at age 12. Hope that helps. I don't believe that the two necessarily go hand in hand. For our family, it was a blessing that they did not, it keeps boys at bay longer.

Most importantly, she needs to know that if she never wears a larger cup size, she's beautiful and just fine the way she is. I hope this message is reinforced at home, because teens can quickly internalize negative (or even neutral) messages from others about body image--especially something like breast size.

With all the hormones in today's food.. consider it a good thing that your daughter is developing at 14!

Hi N.!

I'm sure that this is a difficult time for your daughter; especially in the girl's locker room at school and in the dressing rooms at stores. How I remember that time in my life. I was slow to develop in that way too and kids can be sooooooooooooooo very cruel.
My suggestion is if you have the awareness and faith in God, you can teach her that God created her, and regards her as very special, and very beautiful. Teach her that God has a wonderful plan for her life, and that pleasing God is a worthwhile endeavor. If you don't have that background, understanding or belief, you can learn together, and it will help both of you, and you can grow closer together. Pleasing people is impossible because, well, let's face it, people are fickle and you will always get conflicting messages. You won't get that from God. I didn't learn about my identity in Jesus Christ until I was in my 40's and it would have been invaluable when I was a child and teenager!!

I hope that helps you!

T. H.
