Any ideas of helping relieve an infection of 1 ear that is peirced, but the other ear is ok?! Ears were peirced on Oct 25th, I clean and turn them daily as was explained by the tech who peirced them.
Ok, so I went to the doctor for her flu shot yestrday (12/13/06), couldnt get it because of a 101.4 temp, and doc looked @ her ear, and gave her a cream for me to apply 2X a day for the next 2 weeks, told me to "go ahead and put her earring back in" because " I just dont think it was the earring causing the infection". I said "when I took the earring out, a bunch of goop squirted out, dont tell me it wasnt the earring causing the infection" so he said " well, then why did you get her ears pierced in the first place?" Ok Im not normally a B****, because he is supposed to know what to do, seeing as how he went to school for 8 years to become a doc, Ya know what I mean? Well, out of my mouth before I could stop it came the words "Because she is my child and it was my decision! By the way, It is also my decision weather my child comes here again or not!" All he could do was look at me. Any body have a doc that isnt arrogant just because of the insurance you have? (Medicaid) If so-- Let me know!
This is common for my daughter (she's six and just got pierced this summer). With the earrings out, take a q-tip with peroxide on it and clean the opening back and front. The put some Neosporin or Trisporin on the earring stem before putting the earrings back in. Do it daily until the infection appears to clear up. It usually only take my daughter 2 days before it is all gone. Good Luck
Definitely get a new DR! What a jerk. What kind of insurance do you have? I am sure yours offers more than one, so check with your insurance co.
Sounds like you have gotten a lot of good advice already. I had know idea about the blunt force of the gun. good to know. I don't want to scare you but be on the look out. My daughters ear became infected about 6 weeks after piercing. I would have thought they would be practically healed. She complained of her ear hurting a little in the morning. Went to the school nurse who could do nothing but send a note home. By the time she got home she had a red streak going down her neck. I took out the earering and all this puss came out. We took her to the ER on a nurses suggestion. She was put on antibiotics.
within the next 6 months she had 2 other septic situations one was from a splinter in her hand. the third we don't know what caused it but she ended up needing emergency surgery to drain the infection. It was in her knee they had to put in a pic line to give her IV antibiotics 3 times a day for 6 weeks. She was on a walker. She is fine now and all the test came back negative for a specific infection. she has had another infection that required antibiotics and it was from something no bigger then a paper cut. She is healthy but when she gets the flu she is very sick for about a week. The dr have run blood test and nothing had shown up. I don't think it had anything to do with her ear being pierced I just think that was the first of many infections. Her other ear was fine. She seems to have grown out of it but I do keep a very close eye on even the most minor of cuts. for my daughter these infections happened almost 3 months apart to the day, so keep your eyes open for future infections.
By the way she had to take her earrings out for surgery and just never put them back. She has "changed her mind" several times about repeircing. Claire has a big rack of really cool looking non pierced earings so she can be in style.
I have one ear pierce 3 times and I actually have one hole that will get infected when the other on the same lob won't strange stuff!

I have never peirced my kid (as it is a boy) but I have peirced myself. And, have had almost everything peirced at that. I agree with the other girl- clean it with a q-tip. Bactine is an idea, but stay away from alcahol. Alcahol will dry it up and make the infection worse. Make sure also, (assuming she is using studs and not hoops) to turn the stud offten so that it doesn't get stuck in one place, especially if there is a lot of goop accompanying this infection.

I HAD MY DAUGHTERS EAR PIERCED WHEN SHE WAS 4 MOS. WELL A MONTH OR SO LATER ALL THE SUDDEN ONE EAR GOT INFECTED. IT WAS REALLY YUCK SO WHEN I CALL HER DOC THEY WANTED HER TO COME IN. THEY PRESCRIBED AN ANTIBIOTIC ESPECIALLY FOR SKIN INFECTIONS. THEY WANTED ME TO LEAVE THE EARRING OUT TILL IT HEALED BUT I DIDN'T BECAUSE I NEW IT WOULD CLOSE UP. SO I GAVE HER THE MEDICINE AND WOULD TAKE THE EARRING OUT CLEAN IT UP WITH THE STUFF FROM THE EARRING STORE EVERY DAY UNTIL IT HEALED. NOW AT 11 MONTHS NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE EARS SO FAR! SO AFTER ALL THAT JIBBER JABBER WHAT I THINK YOU SHOULD DO SINCE SHE'S SO YOUNG IS TO CALL HER DOC. HAPPY EAR CLEANING! K.
