16 Year Old Son Ran Away 2 Weeks Ago

I found this site through a lonely move on my part, last week I put into a Google search box, "my 16 year old son ran away" and one of the threads here at mamapedia came up. It was really really helpful to hear the viewpoints on how to handle things, and it was the turning point for me to try to stop focusing on "how could he" and start thinking about “why did he and how can I help him.” It does hurt big time to know that he doesn’t see home as a haven, I would almost rather have an entitled, never-wants-to-leave kid than one who so...

Unmotivated 16 Year Old

My 16 year old daughter is very smart, but is very unmotivated to complete her school work, therefor seems to be running a C average in almost everything. I speak to her teachers who say she 'drifts off' in class. She often gets zeros for homework she 'does not feel like doing'. I realize a C average is not the end of the world, but I know she is capable of more and would like her to be able to go to college. I have taken away privliges, offered incentives, etc, and she says she will do better, and may for a very short time, then its back...

4 Year Old with Bladder Infection?

I think my daughter has a bladder infection. She couldn't pee before bed tonight because of the pain. I will start giving her 100% cranberry juice in the morning and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the discomfort she has when she tries to pee. Also, are antibiotics absolutely necessary, as I would like to avoid them. Thanks!

What to Do About This Orthodontist?

So my daughter has completed her “phase one” of orthodontic work to fix an overbite. During that course of treatment, starting around the age of 10, she had 6 teeth pulled. The first two by a dentist and the other 4 by a oral surgeon with laughing gas. After the first teeth pulling my daughter was beyond traumatized so that is why we spent the extra dough to have an oral surgeon do the next recommended teeth to extraction. Now 2 years later, we are in the limbo phase before the 2nd phase where the orthodontist wants to put braces on...

My 16 Year Old

I have a 16 year old daughter who is very smart, but she doesn't do her work at school. She has always just gotten by. This bothers me, because I try to excel in whatever I do, but she just accepts mediocrity and I don't believe she tries hard. I just got her progress report and she is not passing any classes. I don't think she's into drugs. She could probably be having sex because I can't monitor her every move, but she does have to be in the house by 9 week day and week end. Her father and I just put her on punishment for the bad...

Tips on Handling First Aid Anxiety

Hi Moms, I have 3 little kids and am a military spouse, so my husband is often gone. Whenever there is a first aid minor problem (worse than needing a little bandaid), I freak out. I cry or think I have to race around the house. The sight of a lot of blood doesn't make me pass out and I am not in a full panic attack or anything, but I cannot calmly look at the injury and take care of it. Instead I get into the "OMG! I have to rush to the hospital!" or overreact in a similar way. My dog accidentally bit my daughter's finger the...

Helping Teen with Beauty and Hygiene

I currently work with teenagers at my church. One teen in particular is a precious girl, who does wonderfully academically, and is just a great kid in general. However, due to her situation at home, she often wears clothing from the thrift store that would either better suit an old lady, or is completely mismatched. It is often not clean. Her personal hygiene is not too good either. I don't think she showers daily, her fingernails are dirty, hair often uncombed, etc. Unfortunately, she is also frequently bullied at school. While I...

I read an article about wisdom teeth. It indicated that 80-95% of the population have wisdom teeth (apparently there isn't a lot of wisdom tooth research/statistics) and most of those people, 70%, have them removed. So do you have your third molars? Did you have them removed? Never had them? I don't have any wisdom teeth. They never developed. Lucky me! Or maybe that means I'm a fool. My mom has all four of her wisdom teeth. No problems. My sister had three and had them removed. My dad had his removed. My husband has his and...
