Infant Swimming Lessons

I've been researching everything there is out there about infant swimming lessons. Everyone has a program and advises it. But I'm wondering how early you started swim lessons for your little ones? For those of you who did enroll your infant in swim lessons, are you glad you did? Did you find that you would've felt just as comfortable in the water with your baby without them? Thanks in advance for any advice or guidance you have.

Baseball Cards for a Baby Girl?

There is a long background to the question, but the main question is what do you think of a complete set of 2012 baseball cards as a gift for an infant girl? After 9 years of trying to have a family through various means, my brother and his wife adopted a newborn girl in October. We have boys and this is their first and only cousin on my side. My husband has a tradition of buying newborn boys a complete set of baseball cards from their birth year as a historical commemoration and keepsake. He is also a bit of a sports fanatic. We are...

Infant Outgrowing Baby Car Seat??

This may sound sort of silly, but I really am not sure what my options are. My almost 8-month old son is on the verge (literally) of outgrowing his infant car seat, both length-wise and weight-wise. What are my options for the "next size up"? I don't want to buy yet another one when he becomes a toddler, and so on. Can anyone recommend a good car seat that will work for a 20 lb. baby all the way up to when he is a toddler? Also, if you are in the Watertown area, anyone know of any good places to shop for these things? We have a...

Mom Seeking Advice About Dual Immersion Language Programs

Hello Ladies- I would really like feedback from anyone with experience or thoughts on this matter: We ar moving our little boy to a new school for first grade in the fall. It will mean trying to get an out of district permit. But there is another option. I am really thinking of enrolling him in a school with a dual immersion language program. I would like for my child to be fully bilingual and from the little that I have heard of the program I am impressed. The problem is that the school is in the city where I work, not live, and the...

Ipod but No Cell Phone? Worth It?

My husband and I do not have a cell phone, we don't have cable, and we don't have any gaming system. We have wireless internet and a desktop computer. We do not want cell phones or cable. We've considered a gaming system in a couple of years. I have been looking at getting an Ipod Touch 4G lately. My husband doesn't think I will use it enough to warrant the cost. Does anyone else out there have one that doesn't have any other gadgets? That feels it was worth it? How do you use it?

The Sports Question

When my son was very young he was somewhat uncoordinated. He tried t-ball and soccer, but did not enjoy himself. By about second grade he started to become more interested in sports and his abilities greatly improved. A year ago, in fourth grade, he wanted to play fall baseball. He loved it, and he was one of the best hitters, pitchers, and fielders on the team. He played again in the spring. He still had fun, but had an almost all season batting slump, and was no longer a starting pitcher. He had reached a plateau, while other kids...

3 Yr Old Ready for Dance Class

My daughter just turned 3yrs old. I am a SAHM. She hasn't gone to nursery school yet but we are planning for her to go 2 half days a week starting in Sept. She's pretty much potty trained with the occasional accident. I want to sign her up for dance class. It's once a week for about 45 minutes. My husband doesn't think she's ready. He doesn't think she will get anything out of it. I want to sign her up because I think she would have fun. What is the appropriate age to sign a child up for dance class? Books for Just Starting to Read

Hi All My son is 4 (almost 5) and is just beginning to read short, predictable text. I am really excited because, I used to teach first grade / reading. Yay! Anyway, this may seem strange because I am a teacher, but I am appalled at the lack of readable books for this age/reading level in the library. (At school we had a book closet full of little books just right for this stage of reading) My son's preschool teacher seemed a bit taken aback when I wondered if I could choose a few titles from the school's book closet to read with him....

When to Start Pre-school

Our son will be three at the end of January and we were considering enrolling him in a Pre-school program next August when he will be just over three and a half. I was wondering what other moms did whose children's birthday's fall in the middle of the school year. Did you wait until the following year when they were about four and a half or send them early? If we send him next year it appears he will be going to Pre-school twice before starting Kindergarten and I am not sure that's really necessary. We are very active in a playgroup, so...

Baby Who Watches Cartoons

I was wondering if their were any other mothers whose baby (under a year old) really liked to watch cartoons. I thought that it was ok for him to watch cartoons with his 2 year old sister but our doctor told us we needed to put him in another room or face him the other way if he is in his exercauser. They dont watch too many cartoons, something like 2 or 3 half hour cartoons a day so I dont really think it is a problem but maybe you guys have some info as to why it is so bad for a baby to watch tv. By the way, he isnt watching baby einstein...
