Has anyone had any experience with RSV in a baby who was a preemie?
My son had RSV a month ago (he is now 13 months). He was only born 3 weeks early which is not considered premature. The RSV sucks and was h*** o* him but he eventually got over it. We ended up at the ER one night because of the croup cough and that is when they checked for RSV.
yes, although techically my son was not a preemie, he was born at 35 weeks, but he was also small--weighing only 4 lbs. when he was about 6 months old he was hospitalized for RSV. he started daycare at 11 weeks old and had respiratory infection after respiratory infection. My daughter was not born premature but had RSV at 10 weeks. She was not in day care and I was still home with her at the time. It started as a cold but escalted in 2 days to RSV. She was wheezing then had a high fever and were were in the hospital for two nights. She recovered very quickly and we didnt need to use the nebulizer once she got home. I think in her case she was hospitalized for her young age. The only treatments for it was to constantly clear out her nose with the aspirator + tylenol for fever. Go to your Dr. or ER if you are worried. I hope your child will be well soon.
I had two preemie girls one in 2004 and one in 2007. Both had RSV.
My daughter just turned 7 on 3-5-09. When we adopted her we knew she had health issues..one of which was rsv..her first attack was at about 2months of age...we spent time in the hospital and had to use a nebulizer for years afterwards because she has asthma which i was told is an issue from the rsv..she is old enough now to take the inhaler...so it is easier..the one thing you need to do is follow your gut instinct...if you think its not right then take her to the dr or the hospital..the one time i thought it was just a cold we spent 4 days in the hospital because i waited to long..i was lucky...or rather she was lucky...listen to what the drs say and relax if you can..its hard but it gets better. My son was born with a heart condition and had surgery within days of being born. He had monthly RSV shots for the first two years of his life from Sept thru March. My second son was full term and healthy. HE contracted RSV and pnemonia at 3mths old. They say that preemies and children with weakend immune systems should get RSV shots. Speak to ped....it is very important!

My son had RSV when he was only 3 months old. Granted he was not a preemie but it was bad. RSV can be different for every child of course mine had it the worst. We were in the hospital for 4 days. He went home with a Nebulizer, which we used for about 2 weeks. The biggest thing is their breathing. If they sound like they have a shortness of breath, take them to the doctor or hospital. RSV is nothing something to mess around with (according to my doctor). It could be very serious depending on the child and their symptoms. Continue to give your baby the medicine that your doctor gave you and everything will be fine. I hope I didn't scare you too much...
