Calling Moms of Children with Food allergies....what Is Your School's Epi Policy

Hi Moms: My son has a peanut allergy. Like many of you we carry and Benadryl, epi pen and albuterol inhaler everywhere. No problem, I just carry a bigger bag.:) Here's my question: I signed my 5 year old son up for a very reputable camp this summer. Their allergy response policy is unlike any I have ever encountered. His allergy action plan calls for Benadryl, epi & inhaler in that order if needed. The camp will ONLY administer the epi pen. They will NOT administer Benadryl and he has to self administer the inhaler. I find this to be...

Peanut/Nut Allergies Lack of Support from Moms at School

My son has peanut & nut allergies. We recently enrolled him in a new school (he is in Kindergarten). The teacher sent a note to all the parents in the class that on snack day, ,no one should send snacks that contain nuts or peanuts so that my son is not exposed to this allergen. My son cannot eat anything with peanuts and nuts or if he touches something that has any bit of nuts or peanuts and then rubs his eyes he can have a full blown allergy attack which may include his throat closing. There is a Benedryl and an Epi-pen in the...

Epi Pen ????

My daughter is allergic to peanuts and we just went and picked up her epi pen and I noticed that it exp in may 2007. That just doesn't seem to be a very long shelf life for something that you hopefully will not need to use often. Of course if this is the norm that is fine but I feel like maybe the pharmacy just gave me an old one that they had on the shelf and if that is the case I am going back up there. So if someone could check theirs and let me know I would sooo appreciate it!

Peanut Allergy and Asthma Question

Hi, My son is 15 months old and was recently tested for allergies. He reacted to peanut and the Dr. gave us an epi pen and told us to never let him eat peanuts. Now in the past my mother in law gave him a peanut butter cookie not realizing you aren't supposed to give a toddler peanut butter and he had no reaction. My husband had given him PB ice cream without thinking as well. I would have thought something would have happened then but nothing did. Has anyone had this experience? The second part of my question is that he was diagnosed...

New Allergy: Itchy Hives!

I am going crazy! I have never had an allergic reaction to anything in my life, this is all new at 31. I have not started new foods/products or anything that we can figure out. Here is the short story: One day I had some itchy bumps on my legs and I thought it was razor burn or something well each day after that it progressed all the way up to a full blown allergic reaction where my face/hands/feet swelled and it was hard to breathe. Well I have been working w/ an allergist for several months and he tested me for the regular allergic prick...

Baby with a Milk Allergy

I have an 8 month old with a milk allergy. He cannot have anything that contains milk or he gets really sick, vomits, rash, diarrhea and swelling. I am out of ideas for foods. He has started eating table foods and my creativity has left his menu pretty slim. So far he eats mixed veggies, oranges, tator tots and pretzels. Any advice on foods for him to gum up?

Allergic Reaction to Flu Shot?

I work in a group home setting so I get my flu shot EVERY single year. I got mine for this year yesterday afternoon. I got the shot at 3pm and by about 4-4:30pm I had started to itch really bad. I went to the bathroom and lifted up my shirt and found splotchy patches of hives. It did not get worse during the night so I thought maybe it was from the new body wash I used Sunday night. Plus I had never had a reaction to the flu shot before so the thought just did not cross my mind. When I got off from work last night I took some Benadryl and...

Pink Puffyness Under My One Year Olds Eye

Okay, Yesterday my 14 month old son was having his snack and everything was fine. He was eating some cheese, mini peanut butter ritz crackers and orange juice. After he was done, I put him down for his nap but about 20 min later he still wasn't asleep so I went to get him out. When I went to get him, I noticed that his right eye was very swollen underneath and very pink. It looked like it was half closed. He was acting totally fine and seemed to be unaware of it. Over the next 1.5 hours, it seemed to go away. What was that? Is he allergic...

Is It Eczema?

My 7 month old has been having these dry, rough pinkish places come up like on his arm in the inside crease of his elbow and on his face. I know he suffers from allergies, he is so stuffy more so at night, and since allergies and eczema go hand in hand thats what i think it is. should i take him to his pediatrician or an allergy specialist for diagnosis?? our pcp is so vague she may just say "yeah it Could be" and that be it. And if it is eczema how do you treat a baby?? thanks moms:)
