Epi Pen ????

My daughter is allergic to peanuts and we just went and picked up her epi pen and I noticed that it exp in may 2007. That just doesn't seem to be a very long shelf life for something that you hopefully will not need to use often. Of course if this is the norm that is fine but I feel like maybe the pharmacy just gave me an old one that they had on the shelf and if that is the case I am going back up there. So if someone could check theirs and let me know I would sooo appreciate it!

Should I Take My Daugher to an Allergist?

Haha...2 children and 2 questions in a row! Thank goodness for this site! Anyhoo...here is my question. My daugter (now 2) had a bad reaction to her 1 yr vaccines (hives and fever- I was told it was a virus not the vaccine) and since then ANYTIME she eats ranch dressing wherever it touches her skin it becomes red. She doesn't seem bothered by it. Again the pediatrician told me a while back that it was contact and not to worry. The other night she had both ranch and ketchup and not only was she red around her mouth but then she also had a...

Adverse Reaction to Epi-pen Jr.

Hi moms, Last weekend, I fed my son whole wheat pasta, green peas, with homemade carbonara sauce (milk, egg, basil, parmesan cheese). All of these ingredients, he has had some way before, but never with carbonara sauce. Almost immediately, he began rubbing his eyes, getting the sauce all over his face and into his eyes, and he began swelling pretty intensely, but he was breathing fine. We went to urgent care, where they gave him benadryl orally, which he promptly vomited. Then, they gave him an epi-pen jr. shot. My son cried for a...

Epi-pen Jr. in an Airport (And Some Liquid Questions)

My 19 month old son has a food allergy and we must carry an epi-pen jr. around with us at all times. Is there any special consideration we have to take when traveling by plane? I can see security claiming that it is a weapon or something like that since there is a needle, but at the same time, it is a rescue medication that is required to be with my son at all times. Also, because my son's food allergy, he usually cannot eat food out. I will be packing him some of his favorites since we will be traveling for breakfast and lunch. Is...

Question for Moms Who Must Carry Medications (Like Benadryl or Epi-pen).

My three-year-old son has a couple of food allergies that require us to carry an Epi-Pen and Benadryl with us. I need it to be accessible, so I keep it in my purse or in the diaper bag. The problem is that my son loves Benadryl - it has a good taste - and lately he's been "investigating" the bag that I keep the meds in. The Benadryl has a child-proof top, but still ... I'm afraid one day he'll get it off and drink. I'm also worried he'll get the top of the Epi-Pen off and accidentally inject himself. Anyone have ideas about how to keep...

Allergies/ Asthma and Allergy Shots

My daughter who is eight years old and unfortunately taken after me with allergies. This particular Summer she has had a heck of a time. She has coughed all summer literally. She coughs up so much flim that she vomits. She has been on various antibiotics, and she is now on prednisone which is the third time this year. Her pediatrician ordered a chest xray which was negative. So my thoughts were okay why is she coughing so much. Is it the drainage, something she is around. The pediatrician and allergist both recommended allergy shots...

Allergies to Fish

I think my 15 month is allergic to salmon. He has vomited the last two times after he ate it. I am wondering if he is allergic to all fish, or just salmon. I am taking him next week to the doctor to see if they can do allergy tests on him. I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this with their child and if so was it to all fish?

Allergic Reaction to Flu Shot?

I work in a group home setting so I get my flu shot EVERY single year. I got mine for this year yesterday afternoon. I got the shot at 3pm and by about 4-4:30pm I had started to itch really bad. I went to the bathroom and lifted up my shirt and found splotchy patches of hives. It did not get worse during the night so I thought maybe it was from the new body wash I used Sunday night. Plus I had never had a reaction to the flu shot before so the thought just did not cross my mind. When I got off from work last night I took some Benadryl and...

Alcat or Pediatric Allergist? Please Help Me Decide..

My son has been having chronic severe allergic cough since some time. It seems to flair up while eating and sleeping and he's fine most of the other times. His homeopath advised taking a food allergy test from ALCAT. However it seems to create a lot of false positives and negatives based on my online research. Does anyone have any experience with ALCAT? Is it helpful? I don't even know if its really allergies but that's what it looks like. Would it make sense to take him to a pediatric allergist instead of doing ALCAT myself? If so,...
