Any Lessons Learned Re: Renting a Jumpy House for a Party?

Hi Mamas! I'm having a house party in a month and want to rent a jumpy house thingy. Any dos or don'ts? I was thinking of not getting one that includes a water portion for muddy mess reasons. Are some jumpy house styles hotter inside than others (since it will be August?) Thanks Mamas!

Sign Language Delay

Hi all, We have been using three simple signs with our now 10-month-old since she was 6 months. We use the signs for milk, eat and more. She does not yet respond with her own signs and most of the time it does not seem to register that we communicating at all. I had read that many kids begin signing 7-9 months. Anyone else have a late starter like this?

Another Campling Question

We're going on our first ever camping trip this coming weekend. I know someone on here has already asked this, but I can't seem to find the post. I haven't been camping since I was a kid so I kinda forget what I need to take. We have a car, so there's not a ton of room either. We have a tent, air mattress, camp chairs, pillows and blankets on the list. What else to I have to have? What kind of food should I plan on taking? We don't have a camp stove or anything like that, so everything has to be able to be cooked over the fire. Is there any...

Asking for Other Mom's Input on How They Are Cutting Back During the Recession.

Hi everyone, Since we're in a Recession and hopefully the only time the market will be this bad during our adult lives, I would love to hear/share ideas of what other moms are doing to cut back on their family's expenses. On our end, we want to contribute the same amount to our 401Ks right now while stocks are cheap. We're not perfect, just trying to eat most of our meals in right now and consolidate trips to the store. I've also been buying diapers and wipes in bulk and am dropping my cell phone for a trac phone since I don't use very...

Dry Erase Calendar

Hi all! I have been going CRAZY trying to find a dry erase calendar that will fit on my refrigerator! Our fridge has a slightly rounded front, so none of the "board" calendars fit on it. I have tried piling magnet on top of magnet to keep a calendar on there, but it doesn't work. Right now, our current one is velcroed on (seriously) and is falling off. I am wondering if anyone knows of a magnetic "mat" kind of calendar-has to be dry erase- that would just conform to my refrigerator front. I know it sounds like a silly question, but...

Fall Vacation Suggestions

Hi, We live in the western suburbs of Chicago and are looking for a good place to take a mini vacation either late summer/early fall. Our kids will be roughly 3 1/2 and 9 months old when we travel. We want to be able to keep the drive under 6 hours and are hoping for a good mix of kid and family friendly activities. We aren't sure what the budget for this trip will be yet (waiting to find out if Hubby gets a bonus) and that will determine how long we are gone, but we are thinking of a 3 to 4 night stay. We are open to indoor water parks,...

I'm Lost About Preschool

I work full time, and my long time boyfriend stays home with our daughter since we could never seem to afford daycare with what I make. My daughter just turned 3 and I feel like I'm being bombarded by other people saying, "Is she starting Preschool yet?". I really don't even know where to start to get her in or how I would afford it. My mom was a single mom while I was a child, so I was in daycare from a very young age. I just wonder is it necessary, if we work with her at home, and are there websites that show you what they should know...

Preschool Mean Kids

My 3-year-old (he'll be 3 1/2 next week) started preschool soon after getting potty-trained in February of 2007. All of the other kids in his class started in September of 2006 (when school traditionally starts). My son LOVES activities and teachers and kids so my hubby and I were so excited to finally get him potty trained and enrolled in a preschool. In the past we had done classes at the Y, Gymboree, and play groups here and there. After the first week of preschool, my son started to get really quiet when we asked him about...

Looking Forward to Summer Break - Heak No!

I was at a party yesterday and the subject came up. Everyone was shocked that I said no, I wasn't looking forward to it. Yes, I'm looking forward to summer days on the beach and cook outs and all that. Am I looking forward to all three kids being home all day every day? No. The melt downs and the fighting. Waking the baby up from his nap and whining because lunch isn't what they want. Heaven help me if I ask them to do more than their chores. Then we have screaming fits and slamming doors. Yes, I have tried charts and time outs. I've tried...
