Communication with IEP Team

My daughter has an IEP with the school district she attends. I seek continual contact with the team that services her needs. I have provided a calendar for the teacher to write notes to me daily for the last two years. I email the team when I have questions and evan text some. All is good. I am a very involved parent and am a former teacher. We just met for the 10-11 school year and they feel intimitated by me which is why they dont keep in touch with me like they should and they want to LIMIT my contact with them to only report...

Wanting to Teach Sign Language

I have a friend who said that teaching her daughter sign language before she was able to talk was helpful. She and the daycare taught her things like: please, thank you, more, hungry, thirsty, etc. My child is at home with me everyday and I would also like to teach these things. He is 3 1/2 months old...what age is appropriate to start this and how do I go about doing this.

Language Immersion Schools

We are considering enrolling our daughter in a French immersion school for kindergarten, but I am concerned that it will be too difficult for her to learn a new language and actually learn anything else. My daughter is very excited about kindergarten but I am worried that it may too frustrating for her and I want her to enjoy school not dread it. Has anyone had experience with this type of school and if so what did you think of it?

Just Not Enough Hours in the Day

Ladies, I really just need to vent. And if anyone can offer some advice or suggestions or just know where I am coming from please respond. I am a 32 year old mother of a 4-1/2 yr old and an 18 month old. I work full time up to around 45 hours a week. My kids go to a sitter 3 days a week and my Mother watches them two days. My day starts around 5:00AM and by the time I get home it is typically 5:00 to 5:30 which is time for dinner, cleanup, bath-time, and whatever else comes along. Besides the fact that I do not have 5 minutes to...

16 Month Old Is Driving Me Crazy

so my 16 month old is driving me crazy. for the past few months she's been very needy, crying and whining when i put her down or leave the room (even if her dad is with her). i read somewhere that it's just a phase, and that it passes faster if you provide reassurance that you are available for them. but it has gotten worse. and she's started to whine. she does not do this as much with her father. needless to say this is super unpleasant and i wonder if being too available (i stay at home) is not making it worse. any advice?

Has Anyone Ever Washed Their Ipod?

I washed and dryed my ipod. I have it on the charger and I am only getting the apple logo. What are the chances that it will be o.k? Do you think that it just needs a new battery? Can you even replace the battery on an ipod? I think I am going to have to throw it out, but thought I would just make one last effort to save it. Thanks

. Older Kids Catching up in Sports?

My second grade son started playing soccer in kindergarten in the local Y intramural program and was the only kid who'd never played before (everyone else started in pre-school) and though he stuck with it through the end of 1st grade, he's always been the worst on the team. He's also tried indoor floor hockey which was a bit of a disaster, and now he's just started baseball (coach-pitch), and again, is the only kid who'd never played before and is again, the worst on the team. As he talks about the list of other sports to try - searching...

Combined Birthday Party for My Sons Both Born in August.

I was wondering if I could get a few of your opinions. Both of my boys were born in August. Jacob will be 5 August 5th and Aaron will be 1 August 18th. I had planned on just having a combined party for the two of them as I don't want to pay, nor can I afford to throw 2 parties that close to each other. I'm afraid though, that Jacob may have some jealousy issues as I'm sure a lot of the attention will be on Aaron at the party. I always had a shared party as a child with my cousin (we were a very close family at that time) who's birthday is...

Son Having Trouble in Pre School

hello again ladies I called my sons pre school teacher today to ask a question. I really love his teacher, she is fantastic and so nice and my son seems to love her too. When we spoke, she had expressed to me that she has some concerns about my son. She wanted to give him a little more time before she spoke with me, but since we were on the phone she decided to tell me. She told me that my son has been having a very very difficult time with focus and his listening skills. She has expressed how much she really like David and thought...

Soccer Moms Please Advise

My son who is 8 has been playing soccer for 3 years. He has always loved it. Problem is he keeps getting put on teams with people who have never played before or for coaches who have never coached. I thought all of this was behind us. Recently after another 10-0 loss he is losing all self esteem. All he says is he sucks and he is no good. I really don't care about wins and losses ( truthfully). But when is my son gonna get to the point where he doesn't want to play because he sees no results. Should I search for another team or just...

Summer Learning Slump

Mamas & Papas- For those of you with school aged kids, do you believe in the summer learning slump? Do you do anything academic at home to combat it? Growing up my summers were spent at the playground and the beach, with a weekly trip to the library where we were allowed to take out no more than 25 books. We also went to the occassional museum, or zoo outing. But I don't remember say math worksheets or any other sort of thing. Thanks, F. B.

Two Questions About Summer Child Care

I could use some "Mommie" advise on summer child care for my 5 year old daughter and son who is turning 1 this Thursday. For background information, I work from home doing a normal full-time 8am - 5pm job where I have to stay pretty close to my computer and am pretty consistently busy most days. Question 1: For my 5 year old (turning 6 in July) We were thinking about signing her up for summer camp at the daycare she currently attends before and after kindergarten. However, after looking at the calendar of events and what they will be...

TV Or No TV?

Hello! So I've heard many different things about babies watching TV. My baby is going to be 6 months old on April 4th and sometimes she gets so fussy nothing calms her down but the TV. Of course I don't let her watch it all day or anything. But she'll watch about total 1 1/2 hours of TV (not all at the same time! 30 min here and there) so I'm just wondering what you moms out there think about letting your babies watch TV, thanks :)
