13 Year Old Son Refuse to Eat

My son goes thur these phase's were he doesn't want to eat. He will go all day without eating. He is not depressed or has any issues. This doesn't go on for days. It just happens once in a while, but enough for me to be concerned. He just says he is not hungry. Should I ground him till he eats? Should I treat him like a 2 yr old and say you can't get up from the table till you have finished all your food. How do you make a 13 yr old eat? He is already skinny as a stick. Should I just leave him alone till he gets sick from not eating. ...

When to Stop Breastfeeding

I am looking for opinions on when it is ok to stop breastfeeding. I nursed my 1st child to 11 mo, second didn't work out so well, and was only able to nurse for 7 weeks. My third child is now 8 mo, and I would really like to be done. He takes a bottle fine when I pump, and has also had formula, and doesn't seem to mind it. Everytime I think about stopping, I have so much guilt. I think if I made it to 1 year, I would be ok with stopping, but I'm wondering if it is really that important or beneficial to keep nursing these last few...

What Products to Use for an Infant Who Has a Rash

Hi I was wondering what products many of you recommend for an infant (2 month old) who has a very bad sandpaper like rash all over her body. Her back is actually peeling today since her skin has been so dry. I did take her to her Pediatrician who ruled out any illness. He stated it may be sensitive skin or she may be having a reaction to a food that I am eating as she also has very bad reflux along with it. I use dreft detergent on all clothes/linens that come into contact with her. I use Eucerin on her skin which does seem to help a...

13 Year Old at Risk for Developing an Eating Disorder?

Earlier this week, my 13 year old daughter told me she was not going to eat anything and only drink water for 10 days in an effort to lose weight. Of course, she got a lecture on healthy body image and weight loss, but I'm still worried. She is at a healthy weight and not at all fat but she insists she needs to be 98 pounds to be 'perfect'. I told her that if she was 98 pounds at her height you would be able to see her bones and she told me that was her goal. Today I was checking her iPod, as I routinely do, and found that she had been...

14 Year Old That Has a Lot of Headaches

I have a 14 year old son that has headaches quite often. He wears glasses, so that is not the problem. He comes home from school daily with a headache. I have taken him to the doctor and they have no answers for me. Does any one have this problem. He has had them on and off for 3 or 4 years now.

A Newborn and a 10 Year Old Acting Out

I have a six week old boy and a 10 year old girl. My 10 year old has had my undivided attention all of this time and we have had a great relationship. Shortly after I became pregnant she starting rejecting me and pushing me away. For example, she doesn't want any hugs or kisses anymore which is really hard for me because she has always been so snuggly. I know part of this is just her growing up so I did not make a big deal about it. Now that the baby is here I am sleep-deprived and have post-partum depression. I have become more short...

Summer for a 12 and 10 Year Old - Leave Them Home Alone?

So my friend has 2 kids - a 12 year old girl and a 10 year old boy. As a family, they take two weeks off during the summer. For the other 6 plus weeks, she plans to leave them home alone while she and her husbad work 9-5 Monday - Friday. There are camps they can send them to that are not expensive (money is not an issue). They will likely go to a one week camp (for sports) for a week or two but that's it. Would you leave you 12 and 10 year old at home for 4+ weeks over the summer? I think they are insane. I think it's insane...

What Chores Do You Require of a 12 Year Old?

My dd is busy outside of school with sports practice 3 days/week and we are usually gone on the weekends. I haven't required a whole lot of chores of my kids because I'm a stay at home mom and I actually prefer to do most myself (I'm pretty picky about laundry and I have lots of breakables when cleaning). But, it probably would be good to give my 12 yo some chores just so she's trained to do certain things. What do you give your pre-teen for chorse?

Please Help! My 10 Year Old Refuses to Eat & Weighs 64 Pounds

My 10 year old daughter weighs 64 pounds and is 4'6. She has always been a picky eater and it has shown in her weight. She is very skinny and tall. I know this is mainly a concern to be directed toward her pediatrician, but I thought I would seek some other parental advice before making a phone call to the doctors’ office. She is pretty active but is very insistent on not trying new foods. She has been this way since she was very little and because of it, she does not participate in our family dinners. Most of the time she will...

Time to Wean???

I'm having trouble deciding if I should wean my 10-week old baby girl. I feel that my reasons are totally selfish and that I'm not doing what's best for her. We've had all sorts of trouble breastfeeding, but I kept at it. She had such a strong suck that my nipples had open wounds, though the lactation consultant said it was a good latch. And she ate so slow it was taking 45 minutes or longer. Then my milk was low and she was loosing weight, so I had to supplement with formula or expressed milk. Now I pump for every feeding. She also...

Prenatal Vitamins Easy on the Digestive System

Does anyone have a brand of prenatal vitamins that they like that is easy on the digestive system? I had a lot of gas/burping problems associated with the prenatal vitamins during my first pregnancy--the symptoms went away when I stopped taking the vitamins. The doctor's office doesn't have any recommendations for me.
