Peri-menopause

It just dawned on me that I may be suffering from this. I have been blaming my irritability and mood swings on my situation in life, which is also a huge contributor I'm sure. I'm an only parent with no family and was laid off 2 years ago. I'm working, but I don't have the salary I once had, so I'm struggling financially, even paying the power bill is a major deal every month, so I am very stressed out. I keep thinking once I can get back on my feet financially things will be better, but in the mean time, I'm always irritable and sad over all of this, it's worse during my period, or really the week after I feel more emotional. I'm almost 44 and wonder if I'm going through Peri-menopause? I just don't always feel myself. I've looked it up online and it seems I have some of the symptoms. I am more interested in natural treatment. Have you experienced this, and what has been successful or you? Btw, I don't have insurance, so I'm not able to see my doctor for this. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

It could be part of it, or it could be depression.
Peri-menopause can go on for 10-15 years - periods get scrambled (they come and go when they want to but gradually disappear), hot flashes - you can't mistake a hot flash when you wake up sweating so bad you need to change the sheets and pajamas (this also messes with your ability to get a good nights sleep - which contributes to your feeling awful)- vaginal dryness - more prone to UTI's.
Extra strength Estroven works with keeping the hot flashes under control for me.
It also helps to cut back on the caffeine (to help you sleep better at night).
A good nights sleep can be a real mood lifter.

I did the same thing, and blamed it on "Life". But I found this supplement, Black Cohosh, that helps me with the mood swings. When I say helps, it almost eliminates the extremes and helps me to be me again! I am 46 and have been taking it for about 3 years. As soon as I feel better, I stop and then go back to the extremem ups and downs. So I remember and start taking it again, and back to being me again! I only take one a day, but I started by taking two a day to get into my system. Here is a web site where it is really really cheap! Half of what it sells for in the stores! Good luck! Oh and by the way this also helped with the hot flashes I got at night, GONE!

I agree w/ Rebuckster on Black Cohosh. I also take Evening Primrose Oil gelcaps. They do wonders! I am 46 & I am a total witch to my DH & son ESPECIALLY when I'm pms'ing! Just remember to take it everyday..
Good luck & hope you feel better soon!

I'm 39 and I think I am experiencing it too. I just recently bought progesterone cream from my health food store after much research about this. I have had bad pms all my life-sign of low progesterone. I noticed that my sleeping was great for two weeks and then I tossed and turned for two weeks around the time of my period. When hormones are imbalanced you can't sleep for nothing. My moodiness around pms time was getting out of control. Husband would hide from me. lol I would sometimes get depressed and weepy.

I'm sure stress is no helping. Stress can affect your health and hormones. I started the cream a few weeks ago and I notice an improvement. Sleep is definitely better and I'm not as moody lately. I'm much more patient.

I have insurance but I don't think it covers testing hormone levels. I am considering looking into further, but for now I'm doing the progesterone cream. It's helps with so many things. Even helps prevent breast cancer, which runs in my family.
