My daughter is such a trooper - we leave super early in the morning when we visit our family (who live about 300 miles away) and I would like to get her some toys to play with. Any thoughts?

Hi S.,
We have been traveling lately with our 2 year old daughter and here are some things that she loved: either look for a Disney Mix Max (to view movies/music. it is at Target, Amazon etc...) and download her favorite movies/cartoons (my friend did this and it was a bit hard but it works great), or if you can, get an Ipod Touch. You can download movies and music to it. If you have DVDs at home you want to download, you'll have to get some software on line (it's free, just e-mail me and I will explain if you want). The Travel Doodle is fun. We also, a few weeks previous to our trip, went to the Dollar Store and Target and got paperback books, coloring books, stickers (Micheal's has a great dollar section). My daughter loves to take stickers off and just put them on paper so I bought a cute spiral bound journal for her for $1 at Micheal's. I also found these great suckers at the Party Store here in Puyallup. They are on a lONNNNGGG stick and are 33 cents each. That is always helpful when they are melting down.
Good luck, I hope some of that helps,
C.

When I was little, I had those "dot to dot" books and etch-a-sketch for long trips. Also flash cards are fun.

You didn't say how old she is... but our little girl loves her Travel Aqua Doodle for the car. Not messy and portable. She also enjoys playing a toddler version of "I spy" with us. Other than that, some of her favorite toys that are familiar--and maybe a new "special" one for when she gets bored?

Have fun!

Best car toy - the Doodle Pro. Look and find books second.

Nothing two small that drops behind the seats.

Try KidsTravelHappy at http://www.kidstravelhappy.com/

We've gotten alot of travel toys/supplies here, and are very happy with the customer service, quality, and selection -- that, and they also test and review everything they carry.

We found a great toy that is made by a local mom, it's called an "I spy" bag. It's like a fabric bean bag that has a clear window and 40 treasures hidden inside. You get a list of what's in there, and you can call out something and have your daughter find it- both my kids love this.
You can find it on www.etsy.com and the company that makes them is Ainsley and Oswald.

I agree that the doodle things are great too! Good luck

My cousin was amazingly creative when the 2 of us took our 4 kids on a 10 hour road trip. Take a trip to the nearest office supply store and you will find lots of goodies. This does requires a little restraint when it comes to caring about a messy car but it was great. We had 2 7 yr.olds, a 5 year old and a 3 year old.

Here are a few of the things she had in her goodie bag.
A big box of paper clips for making a chain.
Rubber bands. Sticky notes were fun. They had a cotton ball fight. She had peel and stick window stickers. Bungee cords. And the youngest loved the big erasable drawing board for his lap. That's all I can think of for now.
Good luck and have fun.
