Horse Lessons for Small 8 Year Old Girl

My daughter has been begging to have riding lessons. She is rather small, weighing around 50 lbs. She doesn't want to ride with someone else with her. She wants to be a big girl and ride the horse herself. Does anyone know a place in Plano or close by that can accomodate this request?

What can I do next?

I've ridden and taught at Capricorn Equestrian Center. You can check out their website and go check out the place to see if you like it. It's a little more "rustic" than some other places but these are real horse people, not exclusively show people, which is a good mix. They also have summer camps.

Woodhaven Stables in Allen is a great place. They have a couple of smaller, gentle horses - Ginger and Pistol - who are great with kids. It is a little bit of a drive to get out there, but we have been happier there than any place else. My daughter, also 8, rides there. We were not at all impressed with the stables off of 121 and Coit in Frisco. Good Luck!

We had the same situation with our daughter -only she is 4. We were skeptical that any place would start lessons that young, but they did! It was dependent on her maturity level.

We go to North Dallas Equestrian center in Mckinney. It's close to the Mckinney airport. We train with a lady named Charlena and our daughter ABSOLUTELY loves it! Each lesson is $45 -and you can choose how often you go. No contracts, no start up fee, nothing. They even have a helmet and saddle that is community use. (we purchased a helmet due to sanitary reasons) All the trainers are great and Derek -the owner is super nice! Great place for b-day parties too!

My daughter goes to Karma Ridge in Parker, right across from South Fork and she LOVES it. The instructor, Maggie is really good with the kids. Olivia has been going there for over 1 yr and I've seen soooo much improvement in her skills. She had gone somewhere else before that and she never really improved much. PM me and I'll give you Maggie's number.

There is a stable down on Jupiter just south of Campbell Rd. I see them riding there all the time. Don't know the name of it, but, I'm sure you could go by and see. D.
