Princess Dress for a Princess Party

My 7-year old is turning 8 and is having a "Princess Party" at our house. When she first described the idea of having a Princess Party she described the dress she wanted me to buy her (a long blue dress with diamonds on it). I ignored the dress request and we focused on planning the decorations, games and who to invite. In my head I figured she could wear her flower girl dress from our wedding (long beautiful pink dress with pearls on it) or my old ballet costume (white satin with white, blue and pink tulle, lace and sequins). When I...

Other Princess Options/ No Disney!

My almost 3 year old daughter has become very interested in princesses. We don't watch TV except for the occasional Mr. Rogers, but she has picked up "Disney Princess Fever" from some girls at her preschool. I am strongly against giving her anything with these princesses on it, because I feel they are way too skinny and way too sexualized for little girls. I am having trouble coming up with any alternatives. We find lots of great library books that have princesses that are magical, made of paper, little girls, etc, but where are they...

It's a Jungle Out There!! (Birthday Themes?)

Hey Mommas!! Just a quick one. I've decided to try to stick to a just kids party this year (see 4 year old's birthday woes). My daughter is turning 4 and loves all things girly, of course, but is pretty cool about "boy stuff" too. She loves matchbox cars and collecting rocks and legos and stuff as well. So here's my question- Her guest list for kids will consist of 2 boys over the age of 10, one who is about 6, one at 3, a 2 year old girl and herself (plus 2 little babies who don't play yet). How do I have a party that will...
