As compared to the other magnet schools? This decision has to be made today, the school called yesterday to say there was one spot in the kindergarten.

Thanks!

I went there in the 70s-80s from kindergarten to 8th grade and loved every minute of it. My brother also went there for many years. I never went to another grammar school so I didn't know any different than the pod layout. I don't remember it feeling too big or chaotic. I found it to be a great school, I did very well there, and I remember the majority of teachers were really good, some were even inspiring.

But I don't know how it is these days.

Disney is actually one of the schools I will be trying to get my son into. It is diverse, has a good curriculum, and has innovative programs. If you have to make a decision today I'd say tell them yes, visit the school, and then if you decide to find something else then take your child out. It's better to have the spot and give it up than to not take it then want it later and can't get it. Good luck!

take it. I toured and really like the set up. I also have a brilliant friend (graduated from Whitney Young HS) and she said her elementary school experience was the the best. They also have a gifted group out of each class that is taught at an accelerated level. As for the pod setup, it can be noisy at the younger levels, but it gets quieter the older the classes are. My friend said it really helped her learn to study and concentrate pretty much anywhere. She doesn't need to have a completely silent atmosphere to learn.

I went to this school as a child. My sister also went to this school. I went 4th through 6th grade. My sister went for a while longer, don't know the grade she started. Both of us enjoyed it very well. I don't know compared to other magnet schools. I learned a lot.

Hi There,

Disney Magnet is a school with an emphasis on the arts and technology. As mentioned in an earlier post the school utilizes an pod/open style of teaching. For kids with attention difficulties and/or the ability to be easily distracted or overstimulated, it may not be a good fit.

Hi P.

I Have a friend who is a teacher at Disney. According to her it is a good school they have anything the kids might need. But it is an open school, so that meeans it is very noisy. That is the only issue and if your child cannot stay focused on their work it could pose a problem.

It is horrendously loud because there are no walls. I can't imagaine learning in such a setting.

You should definitely go check it out in my opinion before you say yes, if you have options. My child was admitted there and I ended up changing schools. I didn't like the "pods"-that is the class rooms are open with partitions between. There are like four kindergarten classes divided that way and in my opinion it seemed chaotic. Also it is an enormous school which botherd me as well, for my little one. Now none of this may be an issue for you but it was for me. Good luck-I know the school thing can be a nightmare!
