Specialty Cakes

I have a two part question. What is the average amount that I can expect to spend on a toddler specialty birthday cake (either sheet cake or two tier)? Also, can anyone give me a referral of someone they have used? I live in Olathe and it can be from Overland Park, Shawnee, Lenexa (anywhere in the surrounding area).

What can I do next?

Bloom bakery in he city market just did my daughter's birthday cake. It was so unique and cute and tasted so good. They make these smaller cupcakes called buds that were perfect sized for the little ones. I spent right at $100 for 15 cupcakes and a specialty 2 layer cake. The filling tasted like the frosting on red velvet cake. We had a garden theme and the invites were flower pots. I took my invites and showed them my ideas and they did such an amazing job. If you private MSG me your email I can email you some pics. Also, w recently attended a casual wedding reception that had cakes frm costco. Very yummy and vey reasonable! Not sure if they do specialty cakes or not.

I used 3 women and an oven and their cakes are super delicious! They are at about 148th and Metcalf. They are not cheap, however. You pay for taste and perfection there, but I will say both my cupcakes and sheet cake were perfectly what I wanted and super adorable. I got a quarter sheet cake and about 20 (I really don't remember) cupcakes and it was over $200.

I would highly recommend Sweet Perfection Bakery in Olathe. They are located behind the new Walgreens at 151st and Ridgeview. I think their prices are reasonable and everything I have tried from there has been heavenly. Here is a link to their website section on cakes.

I just get cakes made at Walmart for 20-25.00 for 1/4 sheet with a theme and can get strawberry filled and we like the whipped icing instead of buttercreme. Specialty cakes are usually 40.00 and up and usually use fondant which doesn't taste very good.

I usually buy 1/4 sheet with the birthday theme for pictures and make extra cupcakes if there are more than 15 people coming to the party. The kids like cupcakes better anyway.

Honestly Hy-Vee in Olathe does a great job! They will decorate cakes to match whatever you ask them to. Whenever I take in an invitation or plate to have them match our theme, I am always amazed at the job they do. Meghan is really good there! They can do layered cakes too. And for a 1/2 sheet cake which serves somewhere around 35-48 people is about $35.
