Orthodontist for a 7 Year Old?

I took my kids to their 6-month cleaning with the dentist this week. The dentist mentioned that my 7-year old son's bite was a little off and I might want to think about a orthodontist. When I asked when he should go, the dentist said that now would be a good time. I fully accept that orthodontists are in our future. I will pay the money to let my children have good teeth. However, my son only has 4 permanent adult teeth so far. Is it really common to start with an orthodontist this young before the adult teeth have even come in? ...

6Year-old's Permanent Teeth Growing in Brown on the Bottom by Gumline

My daughter has been going to the dentist since she is 3 every year, before I make a trip to the dentist again this year, would anyone have any insight as to why a childs permanent teeth would grow in brown? My 6 year old lost her two bottom teeth. She has good hygeine-brushes twice a day, was off the bottle at one year, never drank juice on a regular basis and had her necessary flouride. She also never had any mouth trauma. Her teeth are about almost halfway in and the bottom near her gumline is brown. Kids are starting to notice,...

Should a 6 Year Old Get Ready for School Without Reminders...

I have a 6 year old boy.. and a 7 year old girl. I work part time and have a nanny come to my house to watch the kids get them breakfast and drive them to school. Today nanny called me. She said she thought the kids were big enough to get themselves ready for school without constant reminders. She said she had a talk with them today and told them that since they were big now.. she should not have to tell them to get dressed to put their pjs away and to brush teeth and hair... etc... they should just know the routine and do it.. ...

Cavities, Cavities, Cavities!

My daughter is 6 years old and has multiple cavities with each trip we make to the dentist! She has already had 2 teeth pulled; 4 fillings and needs to have 3 more. We brush twice a day, floss and fluoride rinse at bedtime; she mostly drinks milk and orange juice (she's not a big water drinker, but we also don't buy soda or other sugary drinks). She doesn't eat sweets excessively either--obviously she enjoys them (she's a kid!), but I don't buy them often and we reserve them for special occasions or as an occasional treat. I am feeling...

Should I Take Him to Urgent Care?

My6 yo son has been vomiting since Sunday night. I had some leftover antinausea medication leftover from the last virus, and it just doesn't seem to work very well. I took him to the pediatrician yesterday, and she prescribed the same medication we have been giving him. If he sits up or walks, he vomits. He has been laying on the couch for the last four days, missing school. I tried to take him to school yesterday, and he didn't even make it to class. The pediatrician diagnosed gastroenteritis from norovirus. The pediatrician said he was...

10 Year Old Defiant Son

I am so desperate for any advice from other parents of 10 year old boys. My son is not at all respectful of my discipling him, he doesn't care what I threaten him with. He is afraid if I say I am going to go get dad though. I just don't know what to do to get him to understand that what I say goes. He also says he doesn't care if he fails his classes, although we have treatened punishment and offered incentives to doing well. He will do good one week and the next doesn't care. I guess I would just like to know that there are other moms out...

Getting Wisdom Teeth Out

Hi Everyone, My wisdom tooth has been giving me pain, so I went to dentist and he said I should get them (all 4) removed. My question is how painful is it and how long does it take to feel better after? I have young children (6 year old, 17 month old), and I just want to know if I will be able to care for them or how much help I will need. I have been through a c-cection, so I know pain! Is it that painful? Thanks!

What Does the Tooth Fairy at Your House Do with the Teeth?

The "tooth fairy" at my house has been saving the lost teeth collected. I get completely grossed out by teeth and have a complete fear of all things dental so I don't know why I'm saving them. But for some stupid reason I don't have the heart to throw them out. What does the tooth fairy at your house do with them?
