Hello mom's
I am looking for a place to donate toys and clothes. I wanted to donate the gently used merchandise to an establishment that would reap the benefits immediatly and not have to wait for the sale of the items -The Salvation Army- I am not knocking the Salvation Army (I usually donate there all the time) This time I wanted my son who is 4 to be part of the exchange. He was told that for every gift he received he was to give away 2 items to needy families- So I would like it to be someplace like a womens shelter etc...

Thank you in advance and Happy New Year!

What can I do next?

Victory Outreach has a battered women/children's center in Aurora. Their phone number is ###-###-####. They're happy with EVERYTHING you can get to them and it goes straight to the people who need it most, just like you want it to go. My son and I have been donating items there, too.

Did you already contact your church... they may be able to help you. Also, I know of a place (don't know the name of it); however, it is located on Boughton Road and Pinecrest Road (near the new mall in Bolingbrook). I think they are right next to a Dunkin Dounuts. I believe they provide free service and can also provide shelter to women and children. Everything they receive they donate it (from diapers, to cloth, toys, cribs, food, etc). Sorry I couldn't be much help.

I'm also interested in donating to a battered women's shelter. If you find a place that will pick the stuff up, please let me know. That is one of the perks of the Salvation Army!
Also, I believe Salvation Army distributes items free of charge to victims of disasters (they work along side of The American Red Cross). I was initially leary about donating to them when I thought they just turned around and sold everything until I found that out.
I agree though, there are so many people out there in need that I would find it gratifying if I could spread what I have around.

Hi Jackie (and all the other ladies who posted in this conversation): if you have newborn up to one-year clothing and other items, the Pregnancy Information Center in Aurora would be happy to take any items. PIC is an organzation that dedicates their time and resources to women who at one time were abortion-bound, and have decided to keep their babies. PIC offers resources to them that perhaps they can not afford such as clothing, furniture, diapers, baby toys, and other necessities. Their number is ###-###-####, ask for Debbie Reynolds or Dorothy Coleman.

If you are looking for a shelter, the one mentioned below in Aurora is a great place to share these items. It's a shelter for battered women with children.

There is a place called Lamb's Fold in Joliet, which is an actual shelter for women and children, and they use things right there on-site. The number is in the phone book...they're a bit south of downtown Joliet.
